Looked at the solar lunar tables a couple of weeks ago and today was marked as one of the best days in January to fish. The tides would be moving and the moon was right. My wife and I hit the water this morning with some artificial swim baits and some live shrimp. We caught some really nice fish, but we had to work for them. The tide was so low that we got stuck all over the marsh. Had to do a lot of push polling and paddling. Ended up keeping five nice reds and 4 sheep head. We caught more but they were too small. I am whipped, but the fish are cleaned and in the fridge except for one , it’s on the grill !

Just remember, when the tide is that low, the fish are off the bank

Most of the reds were caught dragging plastics across the bottom in the deeper areas and the sheephead were caught on live shrimp under a cork. A nice slow retrieve is what it takes this time of the year as the fish are in slow motion and much more finicky. I was surprised that we didn’t catch any specs, but I really think they were in some deeper water somewhere else. We were using the Matrix Shad brand plastics. The colors were purple and gold, purple, shrimp creole (light red).
