I would avoid a mag fed 12g for home defense as they are generally less reliable than tube fed shotguns.
But even if it proved itself reliable, 12g shells do not do well stored in magazines... The spring pressure tends to deform the plastic shells over time and prevent reliable feeding when you need it most.
This can be overcome by only loading the mags when you plan to shoot but that's a pretty terrible idea for a home defense weapon.

The BP-12 Bullpup promises to give you a satisfying experience with its innovative design and use of high quality materials, the BP-12 Bullpup setup reduces the overall length and weight substantially while not sacrificing barrel length and velocity. It is short, compact and easy top handle but still have the same accuracy as long barrel rifles, it serves lots of benefits in tactical settings, the design allows efficient use in close quarters.

My preferred boom stick is the DP-12. It is a unique designed double barrel pump 12 gauge shotgun. When using 2 3/4" shells it holds 16. I use mini shells and it holds 24 of those. Amazingly the biggest complaint is about the weight 10lb. But that Panzer arms is 9 so...
It is ultra reliable even with the shorty shells it ever mis-feeds. Standard Arms is the manufacturer of is a collaboration of two premium shotgun makers. Worth looking into.
