    Since you consider them both solvable problems, what is your proposal to still allow for the NICS bypass and reciprocity of other states without having a CHP due to Constitutional Carry?

    I was objecting to "enhanced CHP." If we want to keep the current CHP system (with Constitutional Carry in place), then so be it.

    Louisiana Shooting Association's annual meeting is Sunday at Cabela's. I don't see anything on their social media in support of the bill. Should we show up to the meeting and make them aware of it? Does anyone have a contact inside LSA?

    Is there something setup that by just entering our name and maybe address would send an prewritten email to the 15 committee members as well as our Baton Rough House and senate reps? That would probably get a lot more voices heard rather than us not so savy types having to send 17 emails that would probably not be so well worded.

    The Louisiana Shooters Association is NOT the problem! It is the Louisiana "Sheriff's" Association that torpedoes these Bills (they don't want us to have), behind the scenes. Committee meetings (concerning firearms laws), are where all the chicanery takes place at the behest of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association.

    Now, that said; there is a Republican majority on the House Judiciary Committee. If it passes there, then look up the make up of the Senate Judiciary Committee. If the L"Sheriff's"A wants it killed, it will die in one of those 2 Committees. Even if there is a heavy Republican majority in both; some of them will find a way not to be there for the vote (at least enough of them to blow past the democrats "rubber stamp" objection), or some other nonsense.

    Not saying LS(hooters)A is a problem, but potentially a good friend to have in this fight, considering that they're an NRA affiliate. Is this the kind of thing they do?

    Sheriffs are elected officials. If they oppose the will of their constituents, then there should be repercussions. We need to find out who at LSA decides their stance on constitutional carry. We can convince them to side with us. If they refuse to support us, we can publish a list of Sheriffs who need to be voted out of office.

    I haven't read the whole thread but wanted to mention that the sheriffs offices make $$$ on fingerprint cards (not all charge a fee), the state makes $$$ on the application and lots of folks make money on the required training. I think that's what usually kills bills in LA.

    In theory this is what the NRA is supposed to do. In reality they're not reliable on the best of days, and have sold out gun owners at various points in the past.

    I didn't see much of a presence from the Louisiana Shooters Association at the legislature last year. Which isn't to say that they weren't there (I wasn't taking attendance every day). The Home Defense Foundation seemed to be far more effective in getting warm bodies to committee meetings.

    You're on the right track there. If the Louisiana Sheriffs Association is objecting to a pro-2A bill, then we need to loudly call them out, and get Sheriffs on the record as denouncing these anti-2A stances. As you suggested, this is best done during election years for them. As for the LSA itself ... they're just an organization. We use them when they're useful to us and we throw them under a bus when they're not.

    So here is a litmus test for this Constitutional Carry Bill.

    By this time, (I promise), they all know this Bill is on the horizon. If they haven't made the call to kill it in committee already, then a reputable journalist (preferably with a pro-gun mindset), should get them on record BEFORE the session starts and ask them if they would stand in the way of this getting to the Chamber Floors for a vote.

    Once you take it out of these Committees, then a semblance of real democracy goes in to play.
