I saw this product announcement. Looks neat, but every time I look at it I feel like it's a solution looking for a problem. If the gun weren't so expensive and the ammo not so niche I'd pick one up, but as it stands I'm not sure I want to be locked into such a niche ammo.

im waiting. its a bitch of a cartridge to reload, but id prolly pick up another ar90 again if i did pick one up.

Hmm, Think I'll wait,I was thinking home defense,Down the hallway type of stuff since this is the same projectile used in an AR by some.

the fn 5.7 is a blast to shoot, 25yd is so easy with it. the ar90 was great to 50yds free hand.

ammo averages close to .40s&w in price, and is readily available in the greater br area.

If you can get the Speer Gold Dot 40gr ammo or perhaps the 40gr VMax ammo, it's close to 22 Magnum rifle power. The 27gr FMJ ammo was very unimpressive in my scientific water-filled beer can test, with far more damage being delivered out my Kel Tec PMR30 with CCI, Winchester 40gr JHP ammo and even more so with the 30gr offerings. Even the Federal 50gr JHP, which basically acts as a FMJ out of pistols, provided superior performance. The FN 5.7 27gr FMJ ammo basically tore a hole through the water filled can and it fell over leaking it's contents. The 22 Magnum struck cans which basically exploded and threw water to never never land.
There are some higher performance tactical rounds with improved ballistics, but I don't know about their ability to rupture water vessels or induce trauma on two or four legged miscreant animals.
It's a fun gun to shoot and you can practice your James Bond skills.
If the Ruger is like the FN, it's a blowback action that starts ejecting the case while the pressure is high, which tends to fireform the case forward as the bolt recedes from the barrel upon firing.
This is results in a lengthened case which needs to pushed back to reload for it. This is not conducive to long case life.
It's a fun gun to shoot ! I have a pond I can shoot down into and I was James Bond, turtle assassin.
How long your S&G's will last after purchasing it and the been-there-done-that-feeling rears it's ugly head and a collective yawn emanates, is anybody's guess.
    Yawn !!

They are issued .357 Sig unless they changed.

I assume he's thinking of the FN P90's that were in service. Anyone can look up the RFP's sent out by USSS for 5.56 guns in 2017.

As for .357 Sig, last I heard/read they were beginning to adopt 9mm service pistols.

If i didn’t already own a couple PMR 30’s I might consider the 57, but that 22 mag ammo is way cheaper too. Idk...
