Aside from the obvious down sides of this crisis, there could be some up sides:

People being more hygienic and sanitary. Losing weight. Saving money or learning how to budget. Making food supplies stretch longer. Cooking at home more. Less drinking (in bars, casinos). Taking freedom less for granted. Taking America less for granted. Learning how the economy works. Learning to be more self-reliant. Possibly more compassion and empathy towards our neighbors (except those damned Chinese! :mamoru:).

    We'll see!

I never said they wouldn't do such things. It truly depends on the facility's decision and what the contractors were there for.

Correct. We are in Sabic as a maintenance and capital improvements contractor. The email we received said. Only Emergency P.O.’s in hand would gain access to the plant.

Other facilities have been taking precautions even implementing telecommutes for personnel that can. I imagine one of the government facilities will be closing as they closed during last years shutdown others are DOD and remained open last time. Time will tell but this is gonna be a bumpy ride.

    Yep.

If the government steps in, expect all of the MARSEC governed facilities to get tight on security.

    Doubtful.
They’ll just learn to want more government assistance.
    (My prediction anyways...)

All Louisiana Casinos to shut down tonight at midnight! Closed through the end of March (as of now, that is).

I would imagine over the counter liquor sales are about to soar off the charts.

Where can I get more info on all of the new restrictions?
    Like a authoritatively vetted site?

I’m actually at ground zero for Baton Rouge. We opened a Covid 19 unit and so far no case has tested positive. Tonight happened to be my turn to work the unit so I’m hoping my luck will hold and no positive cases will roll through. I hear there is one positive case in Ascension parish. Test results take over a day to result so we can only Stay in PPE and wait.

After the large number of test that were administered yesterday, I’m afraid BR will have its share of cases soon enough.

The more I learn about this garbage, and how fast and easily it jumps from host to host (without symptoms for such a long period), I would agree!

What I would like to do is compare the spread/infection charts of this current episode to that of the last several years of yearly influenza. I have avoided that for as long as I can remember. That said, I watched Edwards' presser yesterday and am stunned that Dr. Oneal stated unequivocally that "most" people WILL contract this one! :(

    Gun sales are surging nationwide!

    https://www.latimes.com/world-natio...avirus-pandemic-gun-sales-surge-us-california

So, if a person with no experience and no upbringing around firearms decides that they must get one just in case, that is a lot of firearms out there that these same people may not want after this is all over. Conversely, if this surge of new gun buyers turns them into rank and file gun owners, that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Unfortunately, a completely green and inexperienced new found gun owner, anxious over this crisis, may find themselves out on limb if they aren't careful. These gun stores should be handing all customers a copy of the 10 Rules of Gun Safety with their "new" guns!

So far this morning, the Louisiana restaurant industry is taking a massive blow. Many owners have not opened their doors at all much less for "to go" only orders. It is still a bit early, and many have said they will make their decisions today on whether to ride it out as a "to go" only operation, or close altogether.

One thing for certain? There are a lot of pink slips coming in the next few days for waiters, kitchen staff, bartenders, and hostesses. That represents a huge number of people who are getting ready to take it on the chin. It's literally tens of thousands of fellow Louisianans.

My worry is even if the place is take out only how are you to know as a customer that someone in the kitchen isn't infected and then preparing your food. This is really going to suck for everyone and I don't think it is going to end anytime soon.

Well, as unsightly as the image may be of someone with CoViD-19 possibly touching and contaminating the food, the virus cannot be transmitted through ingestion. I wouldn't sweat it.

I think you’re missing the point my friend.
It’s not the food that’s the main concern, it’s the container.
The virus can definitely spread through contact with surfaces.
The food needs to be put in a container, thus posing a contact risk.
And despite so many public health warnings, people will still not adapt to proper hygiene protocols.
    Think I’m joking?
You can instruct a patient multiple times on what to do prior to surgery yet they continually show up with full bellies (a definite no go) and unwashed bodies.
They know they’re going under the knife but cannot be bothered to prep themselves properly.
Think they’re going to wear gloves or wash thoroughly?
    Likely not...

I know, not overly optimistic on my part but I believe it to be true.

You are correct! I completely overlooked that possibility. Wishful thinking on my part I suppose.

I will tell you this. If "most" people that would otherwise be ok with picking up food at these restaurants decides that your logic is too logical to avoid, the restaurant industry is going to go in full free-fall!

Now, that being said; you (collectively), as the to-go picker-upper could handle your food container with more caution once you got home.

As for your insight on people being dirt bags? 10 Ring!

My guess is that it won’t really deter potential customers.
I do hope the restaurant industry well during these trying times.
I’m also betting dollars to doughnuts that the National Guard gets activated and starts supply and aid stations a-la Katrina.
    Time will tell.
