Next weekend (Saturday the 2nd to be exact), is Spring Squirrel season 2020 on private land.

After decades of annihilating them with my Marlin 60 and/or Ruger 10/22 Carbine (both un-suppressed), I'm going in with a brand new suppressed Ruger Model 31113 "Sporter".

Hope everyone who hunts takes advantage of this very cool early year hunting opportunity, and brings a kid or a wife or girlfriend. It is a lot of fun.

Who's going and what you slinging?

I am hoping to get in on the action for sure. We love squirrel hunting. So does my dog.

Have big numbers of fat corn fed squirrels since I keep the deer feeders full all year. Time for some squirrel marsala for sure.

Weapon of choice is black powder flintlock 12 gauge that I long ago found the right puff squirrel loads for. Regular twofers if I am patient. Besides... it just smells good!

That's awesome man! You should try to video some kills with that smoke pole. It's not my cup of tea, but I would love to see it.

Haha... video wouldn’t work very well. Part of the fun and what makes it exciting for me, is waiting for the smoke to clear to see if I hit anything! The reload also gives me something to do until they start going about their business again. Never fail to get squirrels to eat though.

Got the .22 all fitted with a nice Nikon Rimfire scope and zero’d that puppy with the suppressor on, oiled the slides on my bathroom window and removed the screen, filled up the bird feeders...
    I’m ready for squirrel season!

What shot do you load it with?

#4-#6 hand dropped with an over powder and over shot wad. Reduced black powder load so that the shot opens up nice at 30-50yds. Trust me, extra fun. Hardest part is being patient until you have a couple together or a little group. When it all comes together and the flint sparks nice it really feels like a big game hunt!

    Thank you for the information.
I’m not a flintlock guy but might could try that in a BP shotgun sometime.

Lot's of squirrels in there. I hunted there religiously for many years in the '80's & '90's. Take a boat up the East Pearl just North of I-10! ;)

Stayed out long enough to get one before the black flies ran me out, tried 3 different sprays and nothing worked.
    What works?
