Don't ignore the S&W 459 / 469 series. The 469 is a 12 shot 9mm with an aluminum alloy frame, steel upper. It has a very retro unusual looking square trigger guard. It will take the 459 15 round mags even. 3 3/4" barrel. Mine has been very reliable.

I loved this pistol. I never got one however. I remember saving up for one after seeing and holding one at the gun show.

It just melted into my hands, it felt so good.

I don't remember what I wound up with, I think it was my Norinco 45acp 1911.

My vote here here is that however,

    1) beretta
    2) CZ clone or cz
    3) 1911

sounded like you wanted da/sa, so 1 or 2

Classic just had some S&W 5906 hit. It’s not compact, but is a solid weapon and otherwise fits your bill. I’ve owned one and loved it.

Bayou Pawn in Central had a pretty clean looking $&W 469 right in your price range last time I was there. A 6946 would be a good option also and in the low to mid $300s a lot of places.

Simply for Sport Shooting, you can't go wrong with a full size CZ 75. Not sure why you want a compact if youre not worried about carry size or weight. If you try one out, it will fit in your hand like a glove, and it will quickly become your favorite gun.

    You were right.

I ended up with CZ 75 as my first foray into this world and... WOW. I thought my VP9 had a nice trigger until today. This thing is phenomenal!! Best groups I’ve ever shot. It’s a little bigger than I was originally thinking mostly due to grip length (just personal preference), but you’re right it’s purely for fun and range so functionally irrelevant. Fits like a glove.

I have a sneaking suspicion I won’t be buying any more polymer guns for a while. A 92 is next on the list. Thank you everyone for the insights and advice on this one, I really appreciate it!
