    Every few years I pull these apart to clean and lube. I did it more often when I fished more salt/brackish waters.
    I had to replace a bail spring in one once.
    I think it was 1991 when I bought these from a sports store on Ames Blvd in Marrero, and my wife had a fit. I made sure to show them to her today just to show her they were still in action. They're not pretty any more, but I still appreciate them.

    My biggest complaint about Penn’s newer stuff is they are similar to everything else. Modern reels are not what they used to be.

    Penn level wind reels have been good to me over the years. Also Abu Garcia/Ambassador and they are super easy to maintain. When it comes to spin cast and bait cast I mostly rely on Shimano.

    oldie but still a goodie------------ garcia ambassador 5000 (red) bought new about 1963 sears roebuck . have had it rebuilt a couple of times and "it has taken a lickin but is still tickin" ......................................... drill sgt.
