Not Acme, but A.C.M.I. Grease. One of my family members passed away last year and the family passed on to me a lot of his belongings/equipment and tools and such. He was a machinist and a gunsmith for many years so some of the tools really date back. Anyway, I’ve been digging through it all a good while now and yesterday I found a bunch of little stainless tins of grease. It looks like Vaseline but it’s much more dense and you can’t just scoop an amount out of the tin with your finger. I scraped a little out and put it to use this morning and it stays put well, seems to be good and slick. I have no idea what it’s original purpose is. My father tells me that ACMI is a part of Mobil oil products and thinks it’s some sort of clinical grade grease so I’m thinking medical equipment or lab stuff? I’m not sure what all they used in a hospital or lab during the age of this grease, which I’m also guessing is older than me, but I’d like to find out, as I’ve got at least couple hundred of these tins and they’re all in new shape and I’m thinking if it’s good enough for firearms I’d use it there. I’m completely assuming that his purpose for it was firearms related and I have no idea if it’s fit for that but if it is I’d be set.
Anyone have a clue if it’s good or bad for firearms or maybe the intended purpose for this grease? Any info would be great. Thanks!

It is a lubricant for vintage medical equipment, such as a cystoscope.

I wouldn't use it for firearms lubrication.

Okay, you’re not likely to believe this but it is for a gastroscope set and made for/by American Cystoscope Makers Inc, (ACMI.)
Likely made in the 1960’s, they also made endoscopes and cystoscopes.
    Mainly urology and endoscopy specialists.

So, ummmmm, what did this *family member* do exactly?
    Or, alternatively, were they *hobbyists...*?

Wow, thanks Cheesy. I’m looking at scopes of old and apparently they’re just straight metal tubes that fit inside each other.. and into the body. I’m assuming they grease the smaller tube to slide in the bigger tube, idk. I grew up in the flexible scope and screen age so I don’t have a clue. You in the field Cheesy? I was googling around and didn’t get that. I did see a reference to ACMI and Mobile though. I found some more old cans of lube oil In some of the boxes. They seem pretty old but still sealed up.
My uncle was a machinist and had his own shop for like 30 years. He was also gunsmith in his latter years. I have no idea why he would have the grease unless he’d found an alternative use for it. Whatever the case he procured a butt load of it...Pretty sure he wasn’t doing colonoscopy on the side, butt load or not, lol.

Nah, not my field; not that old... yet.
I’m more of a researcher nowadays than anything.

The grease you have can be autoclaved.
Think Dave is right in that it wouldn’t be suitable for firearms use but maybe your Uncle knew something we don’t know.
Could be why he had so much of it.

He could have a big supply because it was an oops order and accidentally ended up with it. Get the Ouija Board out and ask him. Or a Dr. may have had him repair a piece of equipment for some reason and he accidentally ordered a case or could only order by the case.

True but conspiracy theories are much more fun.

Sent me a tin, I will send $ for shipping. I will evaluate it by using it on a Glock pistol.
