Just got an email form CDNN with some "gun specials"
About midway down there is a nice profile shot of a 9mm Ruger PC Charger. Not only is it $798, boy is it ugly.
Looks like the ar grip and the rear vertical pict rail are afterthoughts, the front rail with the handstop just looks like it was not installed properly. Weird gap at the top where it meets the receiver. I guess the takedown system is based on the 10/22 mechanicals. Still that empty space at the top and the huge gap between the receiver and handguard do not scream quality.
Magwell appears to be sized for a M1 carbine mag, so the regular pistol mag just looks weird hanging out the bottom. A bit more profiling on the receiver could have made this look much better. I know the mag insert causes the magwell to be larger. Just looks bad, even worse than an ar lower with a colt/uzi mag sticking out!!
Handguard is too short, letting too much barrel stick out the front. Plus they should have put something on the end of the barrel to "jazz it up" a bit. Maybe a small blast can or something. Skinny barrel and large oval handguard just do not go together.
Complete lack of sights is also weird, and given the lack of pict rail on the handguard I am quessing the plan is to have people run some sort of red dot or similar single item sight. Yes, a set of mbus would probably look worse, but at 800 bucks some sort of sight should have been offereed. Not like this thing has an exotic lever delayed post gas trap, blish lock. Just another blowback 9mm with some sort of slidey-weight in the bolt.
I think the rear of the gun bothers me most. Just looks like bad photoshop. They should have continued the upper all the way back and extended the pict rail to the back and farther forward as well.
And why does every manufacturer have to keep using the myriad of magpul MOE knockoff pistol grips. The angle of grip is just wrong and looks extra stupid to boot. They should use a magpul K2, B5 23, BCM mod whatever, strike industries make a vertical grip, the list goes on. The need for a more vertical grip on a pistol is well known by now, do these mfgs even fire what they make? Plus the trigger reach will be long with that spacer in between the grip and the trigger guard. Looks like something a 12yr old would make...
Some of these guns just seem to be designed in a vacuum. Plus I am sure it weighs 10lbs or something like that.
