Anybody know the history of the Texas City bay blast in 1947? This was a few hundred tons more of ammonia nitrate, although fewer people told dead and no plane blown from the sky. Still impressive. Lotta good views. Sad for the people there.

I haven't seen any updates today, but there's no way that was from fireworks, as was being reported yesterday.

Wuhan also has an explosion the same day. Iran suffered a few explosions recently also. Coincidence...maybe? Could be taking out some targets while the whole world is worried about the Kung Flu. Look..squirrel

The initial reports name Ammonium Nitrate as the explosive compound.
    That's not entirely true...
Notice the name on the bags. It's "NITROPRILL HD" otherwise known as an ANFO.
ANFO (or AN/FO, for ammonium nitrate/fuel oil) is a widely used bulk industrial explosive.

Video: Footage posted on social media shows a close-up view of the warehouse area that exploded in Beirut, along with the fire and smaller blasts that led up to the larger explosion.

The prill is actually Ammonium Nitrate that’s had the calcium coating washed off. Soak it in diesel and it’s still ammonium nitrate. Regardless of the intended use, it is indeed ammonium nitrate. One has only to watch the giant orange cloud to realize that. I haven’t heard them calling it fertilizer yet.
