I stopped at Sportsman's Warehouse in Slidell this afternoon while passing through. I had extremely low expectations on ammunition, but there is enough stuff in the store that I usually find deals on non-firearm related items anyway. I walked to the aisle where pistol ammunition and rifle ammunition is located and was pleasantly surprised. About 3/4 down the length of the aisle was still at about 80% capacity. However, I noticed that all pistol ammunition was non-existent.

Notable calibers that were out of stock:
    All pistol caliber ammunition
    .22 Long Rifle
    .223 Remington
    5.56x45mm
Most .224 Valkyrie (which I assume some people grabbed by mistake)
    12 Gauge Buckshot
12 Gauge Slugs (with the exception of some "RIO" slugs and 3 boxes of Hornady SST)

There was an abundant supply of everything you would fire from a bolt action rifle or duck gun. At least 1000 boxes of various 12 ga waterfowl and turkey loads. There were many boxes of 6mm, 7mm, and .30 cal variants. There was also a 10% sale on most of it. There was ONE (1) box of .223 in the entire building. It was some sort of chrome plated super duper defense gimmicky nonsense for 30 something dollars.

So I'm happy to see people are buying practical ammunition for their firearms and that this isn't just some "buy everything" panic.

Neither is 12 ga, 556, .22lr. I understand reading comprehension is difficult at times.

I don't need ammo but I do look when out and about. If you are looking for 6.5 Creedmore you are hooked up. You can find that stuff everywhere. Now the rest of you are kinda screwed.

So it sounds like what you’re telling me is those fuddy McFudd calibers are well stocked. It’s worth pointing out I’ve never struggled to find 30-06 cartridges or even finding quality 30-06. And it can be found on 6 continents maybe 7.

Oh no, not all the Fuddy McFudd stuff. There was only one box of .30-40 Krag. There was plenty .338 Lapua, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .308. Fudds don't like those calibers.

I stopped by the Academy in Denham, this past Saturday....They were pretty well wiped out in the same manner Dave describes above. One thing they did have a fair supply of was 7.62 x 39 in bulk cases, though...

I have been able to find 308 at several stores. Having an AR10 has been nice.

So are y’all saying that there’s too much 9mm on the shelves in place of all the previously mentioned calibers? If so please tell me! LoL

I’ve been watching Gunbroker for pure entertainment since May and have watched 9mm go from $145 per 500rnd box of 115gr to the latest of $580-$625 depending on the brand!

Hell I even decided that I would get back into a new Dillon reloading setup, but it’s nearly impossible to get the die set or all of the other components so I’m just going to wait for Black Friday and hope they put something on sale even though I likely won’t get it for a few months.

The latest metrics that I’ve seen for this year haven’t surpassed the previous frenzy, but we still have a lot of time left and people aren’t letting up!

I can’t tell you how many HK P7 PSP(Healers) I’ve seen go for $2k+ and we were buying those for $395 & $495 back in 2007/8. A ratty looking P7M8 went for $3800 and the individual magazines are over $150 each. Like I said, Entertaining, but also disgusting as well.

Sounds like everything practical was consumed? Did you talk with the staff and ask what was coming in and out to determine if you could obtain some ammo? I was told by a local outdoor store staff when to come in to score some ammo: I typically order online for the most part in bulk but did make a number of retail purchases during the lock-down. I have had zero issues obtaining everything I need. I did notice prices went sky high as the pandemic went into quarantine and the Democrats started purchasing firearms as the BLM/Antifa protests started getting heated. Being prepared I didn't need to submit to the price gouging. There was an initial depletion of stocks as the pandemic mounted, but in the North East it was re-stocked quickly albeit inflated in retail price. I feel as though ammo is a staple for emergency and crisis: we are a heavily hunted region, and it's a sustainable practice here. That said I felt somewhat betrayed that the sources of ammo inflated prices during this crisis. I respect the retailers who kept pricing reasonable and the one's who limited unreasonable purchases to prevent hoarding. I know the big retailers price gouging sold big lots of ammo way over retail and it really makes me sick to think these people are greedy enough to do such a thing during a crisis. Stock up so you don't get caught with your pants down. I feel a sense of empathy for our fellow citizens living under the veil of autocracy and tyranny in the socialist run states. I sincerely hope our fellow citizens will vote wiser and with their wallets this coming November. After all of the unconstitutional mandates by our Democrat leaders in locales banning worship, travel, and congregation: I hope those who lean left have learned to appreciate a middle ground perspective and walk towards the light of sanity and inalienable freedoms. They are crying for constitutional rights and stealing them away as it fits their needs: what foolish lot we must be to allow this cycle to continue. Mandatory masks, and worship bans, yet they sue for check-points and enforcement of the law against violent criminals? The Democrats have gone mad.

I decided when Barry Husain Obama was in office that I was not going to worry about having enough ammo. I am thankful for making that decision, although I lost it all in a boating accident since then.
