FEMA announces first states to receive grant replacing lost wages

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the first four states to receive grants intended to replace lost wages for Americans who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus. Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana and New Mexico are the first states to agree to administer a program providing an additional $300 per week for unemployed people on top of unemployment insurance.

    ________
This is $1200 per month in addition to state unemployment benefits?

    Correct.

Trump proposed there would be an additional $400 per week added to unemployment benefits so long as the state paid $100 of that $400 total. JBE has stated that the $100 is part of the $247 weekly benefit, so he's not going to add an additional $100. This means those receiving unemployment benefits will receive $300 in addition to the $0-247 benefit the already receive per week. This virus has been going on for a long time. People have been on unemployment for months. Once you hit the 26 week max, you no longer receive benefits, so while this may sound like good news, if you have already received 26 weeks of unemployment benefits, this should not apply to you. JBE has also stated that Louisiana is going to need to "borrow" money in September, because the state will be out of funds for unemployment benefits.

Thanks for clarification - being retired on declining investments/dividends since 2002 and really haven't kept up with all of this. Are we each gonna get another $1200 cash like before?

I don't believe so. The $1200 stimulus was a one time thing.

As much as people complain about people on unemployment, they should understand that Louisiana has one of the worst unemployment programs in the country with the lowest weekly benefits payout. They recently changed the rules again and now require those on unemployment to apply for three jobs per week in order to get their benefits, which after tax comes out to about $220 per week. Sucks for those who have jobs that are shut down due to JBE's rules. A bartender applying for non-restaurant type work isn't going to have much success finding a job.

And to add insult to injury, if you receive less than $100 weekly from the state unemployment fund, you do not qualify for the $300 additional funds.

If you receive less than $100 weekly from unemployment, you made a good salary per year...

Also, it seems your lay off must be directly related to covid to get the 300... If you didn't list covid as the cause when you filed you won't get it... Doesn't matter if your company downsized because of the economy, which of course is indirectly related.
