I was finally able to fulfill my promise of taking my wife up to the Boundary Waters for a week of camping and fishing. We left last Friday and got home yesterday. We hit the jackpot as far as weather goes, and had mild temps in the day and cool temps at night. The fishing was a little off this year, but we caught enough to keep things interesting and have fresh fish to eat every night. They brought us and our canoe 15 miles into the Boundary Waters and dropped us off at Lincoln Island and we paddled to our camp site from there. We based camp the whole week and paddled around fishing everyday. We ended up averaging 7-9 miles a day paddling the canoe while fishing. My wife caught some nice fish using Rapala floating minnows that were gold and black and silver and black in color. She also used a in line spinner to hook up with some pike and bass at other times during our trip. I used a Rapala minnow plus a wacky worm rig most of the trip. My biggest bass were caught on the wacky worm on tree tops and grass beds. We also fished some top water baits and had some big blow ups, but very few hook ups. It was fun none the less, and something different. Over all the trip was a great time and made us realize we are small peanuts when compared to the natural beauty the world has to offer. This is a great trip for someone who likes to camp and fish. It’s not a easy trip, but very doable, so get going and plan it for next year!
