Cross your fingers for me, boys. First time...

Looks something like my mobile kit..
Which has been responsible for many, many built, rebuilt, repaired, and or modified AR rifles and countless other firearms, usually on the tailgate of someone’s truck out in the wilderness.

and this (below) is the stuff I’ve used for years. Smarter to spend $30 and get the tube than pay 10 bucks per ounce shipped. Works very well on a polished trigger too, btw.
But automotive high temp anti seize also works.

A vise mounted on a plank can be mounted on a bench top or tailgate or what ever is handy with a couple big harbor freight C-clamps.

Strategically mounted mini neodymium magnets in our upright vacuum as well as the ankle biter robo beast has reclaimed many a detent, spring, screw, etc from our floors. An old light color bed sheet spread out in the core of your work area helps, but mostly it’s a matter of knowing every part that’s apt to shoot or fall out during a build and remembering where to point the exit hole or when to cover it.

Building AR’s is fun. It’s also addictive. If you find a part from an AR, you’ll feel the overwhelming urge to collect the rest and assemble it before your next meal.

crickets from the OP, not a good sign. Maybe he had to rush to the local Firestone Tire Center for a last minute alignment check.

He might be sick of all of the "help"....

I have a few "techniques" for assembling the lower receiver with no hassle or lost pins. I should make a video. Been saying that for years, has not happened yet.

We should have seen post birth pics posted by now......don't tell me you launched a detent pin into oblivion?

Sorry for the delay, boys! Moving pretty slowly, cycling youtube videos for each step. Only had to chase one detent across the room so far, but had to run down to Ace to get some blue loctite and AutoZone to get a breaker bar! Doh!

I'm taking intermittent breaks to catch up on emails since I'm technically "working from home" *cough*

Definitely not at all - I'm a sponge for your tips and advice. I'd be nowhere without you guys. I mean, don't get all emotional about it, I'm just saying.

Lower is done, upper's in progress!

Agreed Mag, I have always taken pleasure in working with my hands. From when I was a teen working as a mechanic at Boyce Honda in Metairie, then later a service tech at Governor Specialists in Harahan. I just made double the money employing more of my brain and analytical skills later with education.

With the upper vise block you’re using, if you have to install the set screw style low profile gas block, it’s helpful to take the upper in the block and invert it in the vise once you’ve slipped the block and tube into place. Then you can work from the top, so to speak, when installing the set screws.

Some of those blocks are tapered on the top, not really the best idea to flip it upside down, because it was not designed to be.

A set of barrel vise jaws are more stable and you should be using jaws anyway to install the muzzle device afterwards.

Welp... after a brief intermission for a soul-crushing headspace gauge / stuck bolt carrier issue (thanks to my dumb ass watching the wrong youtube) that Dave deftly bailed me out of, I think I got me a rifle!!

That was an interesting conundrum, but thankfully one I have encountered before.

I have that vise block Canuck, I’ve inverted it countless times and done just as I said without incident, ever. You just put it in the vise right up to the lip and it’ll hold the upper with no sweat. As soon as you try it you’ll realize it’s fine and a time saver

    Congrats!
Can’t wait for a range report and you to send some trouble free rounds downrange, telling us nothing but success!
But fear not, if it don’t run right, experts are standing by to help.

    Btw, love them MFT stocks

Lemme know when you’re ready to do another and I’ll donate some parts

But why though? You're not really saving time if you're still going to put the barrel in some vise jaws anyway.

Am I still on ignore or will you finally have a civil discussion?
