Has anyone used one for a build? A buddy has one and loves it. I have to say their price points are quite nice compared to some of the higher end stuff. If anyone has info or an opinion on them I'd like to hear about it.

I have info on them. Based on a quick search, the consensus seems to be their price points are "quite nice" for a reason. The prices attract customers. Customers pay them then they give the customers the runaround. Granted, most of the reviews I spot checked were from people who hadn't gotten what they ordered but the reviews I saw from the people who did get the stuff weren't positive either.

Thanks for the info. I'm offshore with crappy internet and planned on doing in depth research when I get home.

I’ve assembled about 8-10 of the kits and I’ve bought a number of parts from them for budget builds, including upper receivers, lots of muzzle devices, a few small parts.
The kits might have a snag once in a while. The last pair I actually did for a member here. I had to dig in the parts box to finish one. I forget what small part was missing. One gave me trouble fitting the free floater. The receivers themselves have been solid. I find more wrong with Anderson stuff to be honest.

I’ve had to deal with their customer service dept on one occasion over an order and they passed my litmus test with an A+
I guess all in all, considering the extremely lower end price point, I’d call them a decent value. I’ve heard no complaints about what I’ve built for others and the stuff I’ve built for me has given good service to date.
When I’m out on my property or my dad’s place I don’t carry high end stuff. I carry something already beat up or something that won’t worry me to beat up. A $300-400 rifle will often fit that bill.

I’ve heard more horror stories about Davidson Defense/DTT than most other brands in the bottom dollar pricing tier.

I’ve handled their products before. Out of curiosity, I ran a search in an AR Builders group I frequent. It yielded many results of customers having issues with not only the parts, but also the company itself.

When prices seem too good to be true, it’s usually because they are. Assuming you actually receive an upper that has a decent barrel fit, upper free of burrs and tool marks, headspace is good, and it’s properly assembled, you are still receiving low quality parts. Now if the end goal is just to have an AR-15 and plink away, then by all means, spend your money how you choose.

Right now is one of the worst times to be buying, but there are still a few deals here and there. As much as I dislike PSA for their own issues, I would recommend looking into them before you spend any money at Davidson Defense.

This seems to be the consensus.

Thanks for the info fellas. I had a feeling the general consensus would be bad but you don't know if you don't ask. Looks like it's back to searching for something else within budget.

Try to find a complete upper, including the BCG.

With today’s market and the fact that every company in the industry is swamped, there are more QC slips happening. The last thing you want is to buy a brand new upper and it have issues.

There are still some deals to be had in the $3-400 range without a BCG, but I would urge you to have someone check headspace on any upper from any manufacturer when you pair a new bolt with it.

I have talked with my gunsmith and when I get home we're going to look through parts and put together a upper within my budget. 400 to 500 is the budget so I have complete faith that we will come up with something that will fit my needs.

That's not an unreasonable price range, but if your budget is $4-500 total (parts and labor), you will end up having to go cheap on some parts.

You would be better off buying a complete upper.
