    Here is the only question I have; "Will this guy get completely excused of this death both criminally and civilly?" If the answer is an unequivocal "yes", then I hope it is acknowledged in the public domain. Then others may be more likely to help should the need arise.

    I can't say that I would have done that unless the scumbag threatened me too?!?

    Under Louisiana law, an 18 year old can purchase a weapon.
    LA R.S. 14:91. Unlawful sales of weapons to minors
    A. Unlawful sales of weapons to minors is the selling or otherwise delivering for value of any firearm or other instrumentality customarily used as a dangerous weapon to any person under the age of eighteen. Lack of knowledge of the minor's age shall not be a defense.

    According to the ATF, someone between 18 and 21 can have a handgun transferred from an individual but not from an FFL.
    May an individual between the ages of 18 and 21 years of age acquire a handgun from an unlicensed individual who is also a resident of that same state?
    An individual between 18 and 21 years of age may acquire a handgun from an unlicensed individual who resides in the same state, provided the person acquiring the handgun is not otherwise prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under federal law. A federal firearms licensee may not, however, sell or deliver a firearm other than a shotgun or rifle to a person the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is under 21 years of age.

    I hate to say it but I think this guy is going to have hell to pay . There is no doubt in my mind that there will be a Civil suit and even if he prevails , it will ruin him financially . Unless he can find an Attorney that will represent him Pro bono , it's going to be rough .

    I'm inclined to agree.

    I know not to judge these things based on a single news article, but if he genuinely did retrieve his firearm and fire it in retribution, then he could have a world of trouble in front of him. If he witnessed a person getting shot in cold blood, then he'd have a possible defense in claiming that he feared for his life or the life of others, but I could see that turning into a legal clusterf!ck.

    In any event, I'm glad that the bad guy is going to be pushing daisies shortly.

    They can call it whatever they want. I call it good advertising. Wanna be a criminal and victimize good hardworking people? Might die in the process. With so many people buying arms and training and packing nowadays, the low life’s will have to play the odds. I’m already keeping score. Bad guys are down 2.

    I think there should be a new law regarding wrongful death suits in these type cases as well. Family members who come out of the wormholes to sue victims of violent crimes should have to pay damages. All damages sustained during the violent encounter paid up front before they can file suit and all legal fees and costs if they lose.
