My dad handed me a Colt Trooper .357 and it is gummed up pretty bad with some sort of grease. Is there a gunsmith in the Denham Springs area that could take a look at it and give it a good cleaning? I am tempted to do it myself but the only hand guns I have worked on are my SIG's. I am not sure if I want to dive into this one in case I lose or break something.

If you can stand the smell, take the grips off and soak it in some diesel., then let it drain dry, may take a couple of days in different positions. I have a high grade Darne shotgun, French made, a sliding breach sxs.and that is what the manufacturer recommends for cleaning the breechblock. Cycle the gun, and repeat a few times. Might finish up by rinsing with some Naptha with a little oil mixed in, then again drain dry. Years ago the company my father worked at cleaned and lubricated manual typewriters like that.
