Anyone one in BR or surrounding area had a real good experience from an arborist (excluding the I-just-bought-the-sticker-to-slap-on-the-side-of-my-truck types). Namely a local guy who really knows his live oaks.

I suggest calling Clegg’s @ (225) 275-7006 Baton Rouge or (225) 791-6060 Denham Springs. If they cannot help you they may know who can. The Denham Springs store was very helpful every time I've had questions. Best of luck.

    Thanks.

    arboring is tree murder

If you saw how the power company has totally cut the side out of this huge pine, you'd definitely call that murder

I like the sound of that as I would like a bunch of it for firewood.

I have had good luck with Charles Windham out of Denham Springs. 664-6375 or 929-3819.

    Thanks.

What kind of work do you need?

Anyone one in BR or surrounding area had a real good experience from an arborist (excluding the I-just-bought-the-sticker-to-slap-on-the-side-of-my-truck types). Namely a local guy who really knows his live oaks.

What kind of service are you looking for. If you are looking for a removal, then lots of guys can do the work and references are about all you need.

If you want someone who knows how to properly prune live oaks, that's a different animal. Ask to see some of their work so you can be sure you get what you want. Many of the guys will just start at the trunk and cut out all of the interior growth until they get to the end of the limb. This is not a very natural look, but it is faster for the arborist, and some homeowners have been trained to prefer it. If you look at the oaks around Audubon park in N.O., they always leave some interior growth which is a more natural appearance. Letting someone trim your trees without seeing their work first would be a lot like like your wife going to a hair stylist that she doesn't know. You never know what it will look like in the end. Unfortunately hair grows back faster than tree limbs.

I wish I could suggest someone in your area, but I don't know any of them personally. If I can help with any advice or answer any questions. Just let me know.

    Good luck,

Actually I have big pine or two that just needs to come down, but my live oak needs a specialist. I would prefer interior growth as I want to maximize my shade during the day. My live oak needs some TLC has it took the blunt of Gustav on my property and it lost some limbs. Additionally I think someone inexperienced cut on it decades ago and trimmed it incorrectly. It is very close to my house, probably too close, so I want to care for it as best as possible.

    Update:

One pine less. I got Entergy to cut one of the 40' pines down due to its proximity to the power line. Contractor did it - done in 90 minutes.
