Man arrested in coin shop burglary

DENHAM SPRINGS — A Denham Springs man was captured early today with $5,000 worth of stolen coins in his possession, some of them falling out of his pockets, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.

The incident that led to the arrest came to the attention of deputies at 2:29 a.m. when the officers spotted a broken window at The Coin Guy shop on La. 16, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office says.

A deputy noticed movement inside the business and called for assistance, according to the report. When a man was seen running out of the rear of the store, the deputy gave chase, the statement says.

The deputy then unleashed Gunner, the police dog, and commanded him to pursue the running man. But Gunner first bit the deputy before following and capturing the fleeing man who, by that time, was attempting to climb a fence, the statement says.

Joshua Michael Moore, 23, 10796 Arlene Drive, Denham Springs, and the deputy were treated for minor injuries, the statement says. After receiving medical attention, Moore was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on counts of burglary and resisting arrest.

The $5,000 in coins found on Moore were returned to the business owner, the statement says.

There are two types of k9 handlers- those who have been bit and those who havent. I have been told that a handler being bit actually adds credibility in court- kinda like being tazed. IO guess you know what it feals like and know what the effects and results are.

I was listening to that last nigth when it went down. It was alot of yelling going on when the mic was keyed. Talking about getting Acadian over there for a dog bite.

I know it's hard to believe but the guy had a history of stealing stuff.
