i already have a bunch of rescue certifications from when i worked for the Fire Dept. Rope rescue, swift water rescue etc..
i have the opportunity to to attend a national certified open water/ rescue diver school.

i think this school may give a good advantage and certification to help me in the progression of my career.

No, but I am a LEO, and I dive. I am trying to get information together to create a division of our Marine Patrol for diving for evidence recovery/body recovery and things of that nature.

Interesting, just a note, within a year, Frank Jr and I will have 2 lab retrievers that will be trained and NASAR SARTECH certified in land and water cadaver location detection and search and rescue. Both dogs and handlers will be LEO. Years ago, my Lt was the dive team commander so I got to accompany the team on several rescues / body recovery, driving the van. It was impressive to see them in action.

Back in the early '90s I was on a Sheriff's Office Dive Rescue Team. We were certified under the International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists. Requirements to keep our certification was 8 hours of dive training per month. That was anything from basic open water, swift water, search and other training. The best part was jumping out of a helo in full gear into the water then getting picked up in a two person basket by the helo. We also learned repelling.

Just a late bump for this......I recently got my PSD I from Underwater Adventures in BR back in August and I'm a deputy here in Assumption parish. I'm also trying to put the bug in my sheriffs ear for a small dive team as part of our water patrol.

Caribbean Dive Shop on Causeway Blvd. is a PADI 5 star dive center and offer the coarse's you seek.

Bringing this thread back to life. After a short break, I'm back in law enforcement fulltime at my old dept.

Plan to contact a few places about maybe a package for Open Water, Public safety diver and rescue diver.

Would love to find a way to use my G.I. bill to pay for this.

I'd like to get in on the info sharing. I was advised last weekend I could join our small SO dive team after a checkout dive. I have an old WASI/NASE cert from when I was 18, but haven't been diving since. I had trouble equalizing at first, but remember it was alright if I took ibuprofen beforehand and descended slowly. (I think I have undersized Eustachian tubes). Our team hasn't trained in a while, and I'm not sure what classes the other members have had (if any). Mostly we look for bodies and the occasional weapon. We have float bags, but have never used any. I'd like to learn how to do everything.

I'm asking only because I'm curious, but I'm a diver and work with a LEO agency that doesn't have a Search and Rescue or Revovery Dive team. But for those that work for an agency that has that, are there places that offer training specifically for LEO. Or does the department just go through the local dive shop for training?

As a recreational diver, I have Advanced Open Water, Nitrox, Deep, Nav and a few other certs.

I would be interested in any LE related dive training.
