I'm asking only because I'm curious, but I'm a diver and work with a LEO agency that doesn't have a Search and Rescue or Revovery Dive team. But for those that work for an agency that has that, are there places that offer training specifically for LEO. Or does the department just go through the local dive shop for training?

I work with EBRSO and have been a member of our dive/recovery team for about five years. We are fortunate to have 3-4 people in the Baton Rouge area who are PSDA instructors, in addition to being NAUI instructors also. I can get you in touch with them if you are interested in getting a class together or attending one they already have scheduled. I think my office will probably do one during the summer of 2016. If you want to come to that one, let me know and I'll try to make it happen.

A long time ago, started at JPSO. Already had an open water cert which got me into the division. Then a few of us took a course at Harry's Dive Shop, forget the title, that included doing search patterns in the spillway area.

Then went to a department in South FL that had a large very organized team. 8 hours mandatory training a month and annual certifications. The course to just get on the team was challenging enough. Done through IADRS (International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists). That was fun training. Open water which basically was a few open water fun dives. Swift water, search and rescue, etc. The most fun I had was repelling from a helo as well as jumping into the water in full gear from the helo. Getting picked up in the basket and flying over South FL golf courses was fun too.
