The M1911 was never a popular gun and was potentialy dangerous when the shooter would try to load it by placing the butt on his foot and pushing the barrel down to load it. Of course, this was a stupid move but it made the name Widow Maker stick. There were also several design problems that haunted the M1911 and made it the second worst shotgun that Winchester ever marketed. The M40 Semi-Auto (1940-41) was the only Winchester gun that was worse.
It is a neat addition to a collection....My 2¢
Unless the 1911 being offered is in near mint condition, (i.e., collector's grade), $400 is a lot for it.
I have had one, made in 1912. It is a fun gun to shoot, but not very practical. You would do better finding a nice condition Remington 1911.
yeah, i passed, i just didn't know what it was exactly. he offered it for a trade i ended up selling outright, i was just curious if it was worth it or not. thanks for all the info guys
