Cedric Richmond is a "democrat" from New Orleans. He filed a similar bill (actually filed three bills) a couple of years ago. None made it out of committee.

Contact your legislator, and cc: Representative "Romo" Romero. I attended the committee hearings on Richmond's previous bills, and Romo Romero attacked the bills like a tiger. An NRA national legislative lobbyist also attended the hearings and was active in helping kill the proposals.

Watch for the committee schedules. It's worth attending - it'll be a great show to watch. And you can offer testimony if you wish to.

"This bill is about demonizing certain firearms based on how they look, not about crime fighting. But unlike the previous federal law, which banned the manufacture and sale of many commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms to civilians after the effective date of the act, HB 869 goes much further. HB 869 would require current owners of such firearms to register their firearms with the State Police, obtain and renew a license annually to keep them, restrict how and where they may be used or transported, and allow the State Police to inspect private homes for compliance. HB 869 has been referred to the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee."

This is what I emailed everyone of the Reps in the committee

    Dear_______

Cedric Richmond from New Orleans is introducing bill HB869, that will penalize
and harass law abiding firearm owners, going as far as allowing law enforcement
to kick in doors looking for legally owned semi auto firearms.
Do you think law abiding voters in YOUR district will allow the State Police to
enter their homes to ensure compliance of this bill?

I suggest Cedric Wilson find a way to increase pay for the police and DAs office
since criminals are walking out of prison after 60 days because they don't have
to manpower & money to fight rampant crime here in the New Orleans metro
Feel good legislation won't solve kind this problem

The middle class are already fleeing the New Orleans area now because of the
    skyrocketing crime statistics
This legislation won't help, only hurt the matter

    Thanks in advance

This was posted over at THR:
On Wednesday, May 30 at 9:30 AM in HCR-6, the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee will consider HB 869, a bill that would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them “assault weapons”) and ammunition magazines. It would target every firearm modified to conform with the now-extinct Clinton Gun-Ban plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever.

HB 869 would also require current owners of such firearms to register their firearms with the State Police, obtain and renew a license annually to keep them, restrict how and where they may be used or transported, and allow the State Police to inspect private homes for compliance.

Please make plans to attend Wednesday's hearing to sign up in opposition to HB 869, and please contact the committee members below and urge them to vote "NO" on HB 869:

Dunno about that, the state leg. site said it had been considered, no further action taken, and the criminal justice commitee adjourned. That pipsqueak may try again, he tried it before 2 years ago.
