Worked as lifeguard a few summers, we pulled a few out, never lost one. But I don't remember anyone with the classic movie drowning act, arms flopping and screaming I'm drowning.

I did see three 6 and 7 YO kids pulled of a drain canal one Easter Sunday. They were playing, one slipped in the other two tried to save him. All three drowned, found out none could swim.

I was around 12 at that time, still remember the images very clearly.

Drownproof everyone. All the lessons are great but nothing really replaces time in the water IMO. The more friendly we are with water , the less chance of panic.
