Nice work. The cuts for the folding stock rear trunnion are very easy to do. I used a bench grinder to rough the last one I did in, then fininalzed the fit with a dremel and hand files.

Cutting the front latch hole on the side of the receiver is not too bad. Drilling the hole correctly to located the pin in the trunnion is going to be fun with the trunnion installed. Are you planning to remove the barrel?

I carefully located the hole on the trunnion out of the receiver, drilled it, then used it as a guide to drill the hole in the bottom of the receiver. I was fortunate to have the trunnion loose, had not rivetted it yet.

I roughed out an outline of what I'm cutting with a dremel wheel then I'll just touch it with a sanding bit then get the edges nice and square with a hand file. It seems very simple. I'm actually going to try and notch areas for the hinge knuckles so there's less of an opening between the receiver and the stock knuckle. Basically, the less material I have to cut, the happier I'll be.

I really don't think locating the hole will be difficult for me. I plan on roughing out an undersized hole on the side of the receiver, then using a cutting bit to cut into the trunnion through that hole. I'm pretty sure I can even locate the pin hole with ease. The toughest part is getting it all wedged in such a tight spot. I'm thinking of somehow compressing the spring and latch together and somehow having it all slide in as a unit. We'll see. I'm guessing it'll require 3-4 hands with picks and such.

Another small update. Was able to blind pin the barrel extension. I used a 4mm x .70 tap to thread the extension and just straight-drilled into the barrel of the rifle since I did not have a bottom tap to continue the threading (although I attempted to...and failed).

I had a fairly busy weekend so I didn't get to tackle the front latch, welded receiver holes, and new trunnion holes.

Detent installed. Kit from previously posted link works great!

    Threaded nicely into barrel.

Unconventional way of fitting the hinge. I like this a lot better than a straight cut.

    Another update.

Well, the weld job is done but definitely needing some TLC. I believe a little too much heat was put on the receiver. This left some slight dips around the filler. To get the receiver smooth again I'll either use some high-temp silver solder or get creative with the paint job once all is said and done.

The new rivet holes have been piloted and the stock latch has been fitted. I have to warn you guys, you'll end up getting VERY close to your jeweler files.

Below are some rough pics. I'll get around to making stuff prettier but for now this is all I've had time for.

So I couldn't help it and assembled everything before even getting the rear trunnion riveted.

The front latch hole will likely get fitted this weekend.

I gotta say, this is the best deal out there for a nice folding SBR. Even with the barrel extension, it's just a couple inches more than the SBR shown in the pics.
I'm seriously contemplating buying a couple more of these pistols and just shelving them for the future.

    Tiny update:

I had my coworker weld in the "Read Owner Manual..." and gigantic stupid selector markings. Looking forward to getting that damn stamp! I've been dragging ass on getting the front latch installed but I'll grow some balls and make the first cut soon.

Sorry for reviving an old (and now obsolete) build thread but I just realized I never posted the final product.

After some drama with a local BR "builder" who turned out to be a terrible human, I reached out to #1bambam to help fix what this jerk did (I don't own nor plan on investing in riveting tools). As always, bambam came through.

The intent of this build was economically driven and I think it exceeded my expectations. I've since pushed hundreds of rounds through this thing with nothing but a rattle-can job of high-temp paint.

Here she sits now with a well-deserved ceracoat job. Russian AKS-74u for scale. The rubber buttpad is a great addition to add a little length of pull and also give some grip when standing the gun up. Can be purchased (yes, it's overpriced) at http://www.russiansurplus.net/product_p/recoil-pad-triangle-stock.htm

EDIT: Note that I did absolutely nothing to the front trunnion. I thinned out the hook section that fits under the trunnion and took a loop out of the original spring to fit the hook into the receiver. It functions just as good as the original design.

One thing I wish it had was a spring-loaded dust cover like the 74u. I'd like to tackle that mod one of these days.

Oh Im here....Just trying to stay out of trouble. LOL. Alex how have you been?

Been ok, everyone's healthy so I can't bitch too much. Hate living in the DFW suburbs but it's way better for the kids. I've been in BR a lot lately. Trying to fix up my old house in BR--old man's moving into it soon.

Next time I'm down in NO we'll need to grab a bite to eat or something.

Me and my brother have AK's that match yours....

Had it done at a shop outside of Dallas, took 1.5 years after a bunch of miscommunication, and VERY VERY late... Also did one wrong (one was supposed to be an underfolder, ended up with 2 side folders).
