This is for the one or two guys or girls here who may not have had any experience with storing or loading ammo associated with stripper clips. (Yeah, the title is misleading, but it got you here)
Next time you buy a couple thousand rounds, make the extra investment and store it right. I do this with all my 5.56 and 7.62x51 mostly to make it easier for me to load mags come range time.

This is what you'll need. The strippers are usually about $10/hundred and that's enough for 1000rnds, but these are reclaimed used so you might run into a couple that won't make it. And the batch I was working with this go round was full of grit, like they'd been picked up out of the sand.
The silencers (cardboard boxes) are not as available nowadays, but I found some at CTD and they were pricey! $5/dozen. Each box holds 3 clips (30 rounds) so ima need about...67 to store the rounds I'm loading.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354116595.500209.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1354116609.671660.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1354116629.051301.jpg
    Well, that's a start anyway.

Loading up the strippers, 10 per clip, I have a chance to vaguely inspect each round for any obvious flaws.
This batch of XM 193 federal/lake city is prolly the nastiest I've ever seen. These were loaded recently (2012 head stamp) and I blame the big supply-demand push for that. The 1K rounds of 855 I'm loading were bought a couple years back and look much cleaner

    3 clips per box

So, you've gotta have something to seal them up in. .30 or .50 cal cans will both work fine. A tad over 500 rounds in the .30 and just over 900 in the .50 if you stack them right. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354117167.851968.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1354117181.448790.jpg
And don't forget to throw a loader in each can, then some foam or whatever to take up any empty space, and maybe a desiccant pack.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354117276.416399.jpg

Loading your mags from the strippers may take some practice and you'll likely get a cut or two (poor baby) but stick with it, and you'll spend more time shooting and less time loading mags...and bitching about that blister on your thumb. I put the floor of the mag in my gut and my fingers over the last round in the clip and pull them to me, making sure I apply more pressure at the rim end of the cartridge where they slide through the stripper.

It took me the last three episodes of the walking dead, 5 yuengleng's (thanks King!) and two smoke breaks to store away 2000 rounds, not including glueing and taping boxes.
    Have fun!

That's a pretty handy way to store ammo, plus makes reloading a lot quicker. Looks like I need to order some stripper clips. Thanks for the idea.

So, looks like 960 rounds to me in that .50 cal can. Plus room for a loading tool and desiccant pack. (32 boxes)
The .30 cal cans hold 540, (17 boxes) btw

Wow, we've always been issued them that way. I never thought about actually going through and putting them together like that.

i can't imagine storing the ammo or loading mags any other way. But I see so many people go to shoot and bring boxes of loose rounds to load, or just bulk loose rounds in a can. Thought I'd share

My only issue is that I'm still shooting up the remainder of my steel cased ammo. If I load steel cased ammo on stripper clips, I find that the "polyformance" line gets rusty where I left my finger prints! I could try wearing nitrile gloves when doing this or something but that's getting pretty excessive, so I just go to loading mags from loose rounds...

I like watching Die Hard movies on ammo handling nights. Just kind of a ritual. Also have watched Way of the Gun, Last Man Standing, and other gun lover flicks, but that's a whole other thread...
