Talk to any ammunition distributor or dealer and they will tell you about the shortage.

It's staggering how much ammo has gone up in the last 5 years.....Over the weekend I was sorting through one of my range bags & noticed I still had a couple of "green box" Monarch steel cased 9mm FMJ from Academy....If my memory serves me well, they were purchased sometime around 2007....The price is printed on the back of the box.

    $5.86 per box.

I remember in 2005-06 (I think), a case of 500 Winchester "white label" BRASS 9mm FMJ could be had at Academy for $49.....:ohreally:

I don't suppose any of you have a time machine in your garage I could borrow for an hour or so, hmm? :wtc::wtc:

I am about to get some 7.62x39 before it get ridiculous again, I already have a decent stock on my other calibers (not near as much as I would like, but enough to put up for hard times). What sucks is the ammo that I have, I really don't want/need to shoot it. Man I hate election year, and more so, the possible outcomes that cause these situations with our firearms.

Once the dust settles after buying my house I am going to start loading up. Just hope things stay steady for the next month or so :(

I just picked up another can of XM855 at wally world in walker. It was the only can they had, but other locations may have some in stock. The total was $174.** after tax, and it was actually the green box American Eagle XM855 instead of the surplus federal lc xm855. The casings are LC though, so I don't really know what the difference is between the 2. Anyone that does know the difference, please elaborate, I am curious.

I wish Wally World in Lafayette carried bulk ammo. No Go here. I'm looking for a 1000 round case right now and I gave up and checked out the forum because every place that I know of is sold out. Well there was one place selling 1000 rounds of XM855 for $400.00. No thanks. The cheapest I found the 55 grain was $311 but they were sold out also.

I saw a couple sites last night that had some 55gr for around $350-$375, after shipping, I will post them here if I can figure out which ones had it. For starters:

    Ammoman.com
    Wideners.com
    Sgammo.com
Classicarms.com (they have some steel cased for about $220 after shipping)
    Unammo.com
    Palmettostatearmory.com

Yeah, I've started the same pattern of picking up assorted ammo every time I go to the typical ammo stops.....Along with buying bulk online........

I don't wipe the shelves out, though. Up until now, at least, I haven't had any trouble finding what I'm usually looking for. But I got this feeling that will change in due time....

Ayoob is a jackal. The ammo shortage is a result of collusion, price fixing. They are just ramping up to make a killing on the election hysteria.

While I don't disagree with what you are saying, I also don't believe this is the only reason(s) for the shortage. There are record breaking gun/ammo sales going on, and have been for a little while now, not just by us citizens, but by government agencies as well.

The factories can absolutely keep up with demand, but if they stay a little behind like they are now, prices will continue to go up. No matter what, they're going to sell everything that rolls off the line, but they're playing this one against us as consumers.

Do you have an inside track on all the ammunition factories ability to produce ammunition?

Also their ability to acquire the raw materials that are required for production, and the prices of these materials. I am not claiming that I know everything that is causing the influx in prices, or the lack of product, but I am sure this factor has a role to play in this as well.

Like most of old Moosebreath's pithy sayings... that one ain't original to him.

    .

Yeah, I guess I did make it look like he penned that one, didn't I? :o

Just kind of liked the way it sounded at the time. I'd love to buy my ammo a pallet at a time, but unfortunately- I don't see that hapnin'....

No, but I do know the factories are run by competent business people, and the only good reason not to produce a product that's making you a profit is to create scarcity.

ETA: not like I'm going to quit buying the stuff...
