New people moved next door to me a couple of months ago and I met him last night and we had words. I have a German Shepherd and I have 6 neighbors back yards against my back yard (I have the biggest yard on the block). Well some of the neighbors cats love to jump up and walk along my privacy fence and then they jump on the gazebo in my yard. This happens between 2am & 3am pretty frequently and my dog goes off and barks her head off. I always get up and go quite my dog and run the cat off. I can never really see what color the cat is because it's dark and it's half asses hidden. I have put a bark collar on my dog but it won't stop her from barking. I even thought of poison after 2-3 weeks of this going on EVERY night but my wife doesn't agree with me. Well I get a knock on the door at 9pm last night and the guy tells me he lives next door and my dog has been waking him up and I BETTER do something about it. I apologized and asked him if he had a cat and tried to explain what was going on and he goes off and starts yelling "I don't care, you better keep your dog quite". I continue to try to explain to him what is going on and why my dog keeps barking and he keeps yelling and not discussing. This pisses me off and I walk out of the door step and begin going off on him when my wife walks up. This guys attitude does a 180 and he calms down as my wife begins to tell him the same thing I was trying to explain to him. What a way to meet your neighbor!! I have called the animal control in the past but they said they don't come out at night. Maybe I will ask if they can come put out traps. Is there any trouble I can get in to if this D-Bag calls the cops about my dog? I don't know how long of a lease this guy signed but maybe he will move out soon!! I understand that I am at fault in the situation because my dog is the one barking but this guy was a total ass about it.

Another thing... I have even put out my game-cam along the fence to try to get a picture of the damn cat so I can try to figure out who the cat belongs to. Haven't snapped a pic of it yet. I may have to google snares.

If your dog is barking when that A-hole is trying to sleep (particularly if he claims he needs to go to work), you will lose. You will most likely lose no matter what, if the dog barks at night or early morning.

There are commerical products sold that repel cats, and I have heard cayenne pepper works too.

You now must understand your gazebo is a feline sex nook!

The solution has been covered here, previously. Incandescent meatballs. Kitties love them, but they just don't agree with their digestion.

Document that you have called animal control about the cat that is causing your dog's barking. Honestly, I would just wait for the cat and kill it if the repel stuff doesn't work. Your dog should be labeled a nuisance animal because someone wants to let their cat out all night.

I'm curious about which anti-bark collar you're using. When our dog was younger, and would sometimes bark uncontrollably, we used a collar that produced progressively stronger shocks. It took only a couple of weeks to stop his barking, and he hasn't done it since. I'd discourage you from putting out poison.

May try to spread red pepper along the fence. Don't know how long it will last with all the rain. I don't want my daughters chihuahua getting into the pepper though. That's right!! WE HAVE A CHIHUAHUA!!! Another problem is... I think my dog is now barking at any movement she sees in that area, it may be the damned cats or it could just be the bushes in the wind. May try the citronella spray collars. Dunno what to do at this point.

That's the same kind I have. It was the most expensive one at Petsmart. My German Shepherd has a really high prey drive. It doesn't phase her when she gets in to prey mode. I was joking withy son one day with the collar and acting like it was shocking my hand and when he laughed too loud it really did go off and gave a hell of a jolt! I don't see how my dog ignores it.

I'm surprised it hasn't worked. Have you tried taking the dog to obedience school? Most behaviors can be dealt with by a good trainer, even when they're long ingrained.

Get a dog kennel and kennel her inside every night...she will like the fact she gets sleeps inside with A/C. You will get some sleep, the neighbors will get to sleep, and your dog gets to sleep inside, safe and sound.
    Bulldog...

You can trap, shoot, blowup all the cats you want...there will still be cats, raccoons, opposums and rats out in the night for her to bark at till the end of time. Next door neighbors dog barks, she will start barking. Put her inside a kennel at night. No more worry of her getting out, getting posioned, shot, hit or whatever can happen while you are sleeping. Plus, someone tries to break in your house...she will bark and warn you and more than likely, stop the intruder from entering your home.

I'd game can like you said and set live traps. Take photos and deliver said feline to its owner...

They'll get the message that harm COULD EASILY have come to their pet but you didn't.

That should "win friends and influence neighbors".

I'd watch the new neighbor. Protect your dog.

I grew up with very high prey drive King Shepards (wolf german shepard cross). They had the run of the property with high shock double barrier electric fences to keep them from roaming too much. We had problems with that before. But at night they always came inside to sleep with "The Pack." It creates a tighter bond with the animals and your family, is a second line of defense in the home, and you don't have to worry about the neighbors. When they were younger we kennel trained them and locked the kennel door each night. But after a year or so we started leaving them unlocked and never had a problem, they actually like the kennels because it provides a sense of security and ownership to each dog.

Outside of dog psychology let us know if you manage to snap a pic of the feline in question.

My wife wants to bring her in at night but I said no. Too much hair and every tIme it rains, she loves to roll in her mud puddle. Talked to my neighbor across the street (he has 2 cats) and told him I will let his cats live if I catch them. I know they aren't his that's been bothering my dog. He couldnt believe the guy copt an attitude either. He said he gets woken frequently by his neighbor behind his house but he doesn't beat down doors. I also have one of my neighbors that has a yappy yorkie that keeps me up sometimes but I don't cry about it. All caught stray cats may take a ride with to Venice or Fourchon. They'll have a better chance there than the pound (my PC comment).
