    Local outfitters losing customers?

Blah blah blah...... I know , it's supply and demand....
But ammo??? I listened to the "man" today and he mentioned nothing about banning ammo.
So why is everyone charging at least double for the price of ammo?
(Puglias) $23.00 a box of cheap 9mm fmj.
I can even understand Wallyworld gouging because hey..... We all need to eat and wipe our asses, so we will shop there regardless the ammo prices.
Local outfitters on the other hand are supposed to be friendly and offer better advice on products, not screw the locals who come in and keep their little mom and pop stores open.
Screw em all ! I'm getting a slingshot!
Rocks are free.( for now )

Walmart - You have to catch them a the right time.
I've recently picked up many 100 round Federal boxes @ $19.97 each.
Now I just need to find .40, my favorite.
BTW - 9mm - The wife and kids have a blast shooting.

Robbie, I only shoot 9mm when I run out of RPG's and Tank juice. :)

    This is why I reload.

1000 rounds of .45 costs $150 and 1000 rounds 9mm $100. Stock up on primers and powder and no worries about when the store will have the ammo you need.

It is nice to be able to cut those costs in half...

Back on topic. I got a dealer catalog today. .223/556 is over $.60 a round and not in stock, just imagine they had to have the time to print and mail the catalog, prices could have changed since then. The primer pages are just missing... a small listing for shotgun primers.

7.62X39 wasn't too bad, about $230-$250 per K, but I will guess that will reflect with a minimum $280- $300 street price. It was delayed delivery, but you could actually order a box that was on the boat. I ordered 3k @189 per K when Sportsmans Guide ran it on special for Wolf Military Classic. I usually go with WMC or Golden Tiger, ultimak in a pinch since you can get it local.

I was lucky and got 500 Wolf 7.62x39 a couple days ago that I ordered 2 weeks back. I think Paid $105 shipped which is agreat price for the time. I also picked up another 240 rounds today from Cabelas that I ordered 2 weeks ago for $4.99 per 20. Also not bad. I have around 2k rounds currently which should last me through this nonsense. Have about the same for .223 rounds. .45 and 9mm I am really set with for reloading plus what I have in live non reloaded ammo in them.

Fortunately not all of the stores have raised their prices. I was at LA Gun and Reloading Friday and while I didn't price every thing the components I did look at and buy were all competitively priced. Actually the powder that I bought was only a couple of bucks more than what it's going for online before paying the hazmat fee.

My only complaint was that they didn't have as much as I wanted and they are so far away from me. Hey Bryan, how about opening a store in Houma? Give Houma Auto Parts a run for their money. :naughty:

Gun shops run on a very small profit margin, and the increase in online vendors they can't compete with is shutting them down left and right. Staying in line with market prices helps keep the doors open and employees employed. Doing favors does not. You ever met a rich local gunshop owner? I sure haven't.

If a local shop had stacks of PMags on sale for $12 you know what would happen...someone would buy them all and flip them anyway. And like others have said a lot of the price increase is happening on the distributor side anyway. Not to mention chances are they'll be having a hard time to even get any inventory to stock after the initial stuff is gone. So they may well have a long period of virtually no profit soon.

Point is, don't be so quick to judge your LGS.

Speed has it right. Was talking to a shop owner and a guy came in asking about ARs. Shop owner says they may only get one or two a week if that and they are putting them on gunbroker for the most part. Customer is ticked. Shop owner says "would you pay me $2000 for a Bushmaster?" Guy says of course not. Shop owner says "there are hundreds of guys on Gunbroker that will right now." Point is, the days of picking up the phone and ordering 5-6 ARs at a time for stock are gone (for now at least). Making 8% with a shelf full of guns can pay the bills. Making 8% off one or two a week does not and shops are being forced to make up the difference somewhere or go under. I can't fault them for that. When bricks of 22LR are selling for $75 a box on gunbroker does it make sense to put it on the shelf for $25 a box considering they don't even know when they can get more? The carpetbaggers are causing the problems. Not the shops. Like Speed said, the carpetbaggers would just buy up the stuff at the regular price and jack up the prices anyway.
