You win! Do they have a local airport. What are travel expense to that destination like?

Most people fly through rome or frankfurt into Split, Croatia.

Travel expenses? Well, it's like anywhere in europe, depends on how you do it. It's not 3rd world cheap, but it's cheaper than Eurozone. Look on youtube for croatia videos, there are a ton of them and they are pretty informative.

i read a little more about this place on wiki and it doesn't seem all that bad. There is no Constitutional Right to own guns, but i guess as long as you get them into the country, it will be hard for the gov't to mass confiscate them from everyone.

There is little violent crime in most of those countries. A gun is not as much a necessity as it is here. More civil people. Not to mention the women are some of the finest looking girls in europe...

You know, I've never really thought about this, that much. I feel like I have already "won life's lottery", so It's really not an easy answer, for me. I suppose there are other places in the world where I could be happy, but I'm not sure I could ever find a place where I'd be happier.

    I know- that's a weak-ass copout. But it's truly how I feel. :dunno:

I'm not sure there is a place currently that I would feel happier at.....but like i said above, give the USA 8 years of Hillary, and I could change my mind quick.

Been there twice. No way in hell would I move there.

The firearm laws make California look like a 2nd Amendment paradise. One local told me it took a year to go through all the forms and money under the table to get his permit. Then it was a single handgun. 9mm as no larger caliber is allowed. Forget about getting a rifle.

Then the crime. The homicide rate is 46 per 100,000 which is about 10 times the US national rate of 4.8. To put it in perspective New Orleans has a rate of 51, and Baton Rouge a rate of 30. Chicago is 16 by the way.

Granted most of the cappin' is done in an area south of the Belize City. Drug and human trafficking are driving factors. Nonetheless it was an eye opener to watch the local evening news and get a report of someone being shot nearly every day in a country where few are allowed to have a gun.

Agreed. Belize is as corrupt as it gets, if not worse than most other central american nations.
I have looked all over the world and found that there are pros and cons to everywhere. Australia is nice, but gun laws are very strict. Not impossible, but very strict. it's hard to get into australia though unless you marry into it. New Zealand is very nice, and firearms laws are better than australia, but still not as good as the US's worst states for the most part, although you can have suppressors on everything with your regular gun license. Canada is not bad, but it's COLD. The older I get, the more I need the warmth. Central and South america well... it is what it is, and I will always be the "stupid gringo" there. Might as well tattoo a flurescent target on your back and walk around with it. Africa? Well... um no. not for us. Even the MOST civilized parts of africa are way too dangerous. Asia. Hmm Too many people and very clannish people. Leaves pretty much Europe for me. Most of Europe is wet and cold. Narrowed it down to the Med region. Not much choice where it's affordable which why I ended up at Croatia/Montenegro. I have met so many professional mariners from there and everyone has ALWAYS made me feel welcome. There is a path to residency for those that buy property. Buying property is possible and pretty much on the up and up. You still have to do your research though. Do I want to leave the US? Not really. But in the near future I can see that having another passport other than a US one may be quite advantageous....

ETA - Cebu, Phillipines was a close second for us, but wife did not like it due to real lack of culture. She likes the Mediterranean cuisine being part greek herself and I'm partial to it as well.

nevermind on new zealand.....their gun laws are terribly restrictive...like California on steroids.
I don't think you read right, then.

I mean, 1) gun laws being a sole decider of whether a place is livable or not is kind of silly, to a point but

    2) They have similar restrictions as we do. You can even buy them through the mail, if the local LEO signs the form verifying you're a licensed owner. They have a similar permission system as we do with a NICS check, it's just that instead of doing it per-gun, they just have a license per-person, and you only have to verify it again if you do a mail-order. I've never heard/read that the police abuse this and restrict ownership, either.

On the big scale of things, they're really not that bad. No NFA shitty restrictions, either.

Actually, in some ways their laws are better than California. It's restrictive, but you can have class 3 to a limited extent (Must be for collector purposes...lol) and you can have suppressors with no paperwork. In fact most of the weapons sold down there come with suppresors on them.

    ok i'll double check again.

I saw carrying of any sort (open or concealed) is not allowed....so maybe that clouded my other reading.
