So im looking for my first somewhat high dollar firearm (well minus my RPD I own) and my budget is under $2300. Honestly I'm tired of the regular ole ar15s..im looking for something cool or atleast cool to me ;) .

Why are the scars17 so expensive all of a sudden ?about a year or so go my lgs had one for $2500 and now I see them going for $3500- $6000 lol..i emailed the guy who had his for $6000 so I can see what was so special about it and his response was "its never been fired before and its FDE.
Are they not importing the scars anymore?

So far I narrowed my search down to what I will be buying (feel free to post suggestions of other cool firearms thats worth the buy or if you had $2k+ to spend what would u buy) i have no special purpose needs, just looking for something different to add to my collection)

Look at Primary arms they are having a sale on the Tavor right now. I don't know how good the price is but it doesn't hurt to look.

I havent seen a scar from distributors in months. It seems as if FN makes them in small batches or something and that goes for all of their weapons made in Belgium. I love my Scar 16. Its a great platform but ******* they arent cheap.

You might want to consider looking for a used one on FN forum. You can get a decent deal if youre patient/willing to go that route.

For cool factor, I think a pistol caliber carbine would be tough to beat. Get a Sig MPX with a few bucks left over for the tax stamp to SBR. Or if you like the classics, I hear good stuff about Brethren arms and their "mp5".

I bought my 17S from Puglias back in July for $2800+tax. They can probably put one on order for you but your just going to have to be patient and wait.

Take this for what it's worth but I know 2 guys that were in different units with their own budgets. Both units demoed / tested the SCAR and they both said they would break....alot. Both thought they were a POS.

Battlefield Vegas has a couple of full auto Scar 17s. Their gunsmiths say they are the most problem free rifles they rent. They put tens of thousands of rounds through them.

What model/generation? I have a 16 I bought in 2012 and it has about 5K rnds through it and I have never had a problem. Not to mention friends in MARSOC and other units that run the 17 and the guys I have spoken to, as recent as 2 weeks ago, rave about them.

OP: The price is driven by lack of supply. FN rolls very few of those guns every MFG cycle. Best bet is to find a local dealer willing to work with you on an order at a decent price and be patient. That'll give you plenty of time to stock up on mags :D

I have no idea as to the model / generation as I was not there, nor do I really care. They both stated that their units tried them and they didn't pass muster. I'm just passing on information that I was told. I get it, a guy on the internet claims to know "operators" and can't substantiate the claim with what model yada yada. Lets jump on his **** and call him out. If you care to do so, go ahead. I'm sure no one on this forum will ever "run them" as hard as they most likely did in testing. What exactly that testing entailed I haven't the slightest clue as I was not there, nor did I inquire.

I'm not here to argue as I really could care less. Spend your money as you wish. But I think I have been around here long enough and posted enough insightful information to not be hassled by posting on the non-fanboy side of a topic. I will not respond any further. Like I said, take it for what it's worth.

If you're willing to SBR it, they are fun, but they are not foolproof. They are picky with magazines and parts are limited. Supposedly the newest of new Generation 2 Vectors are good to go. The one that I have experience with is more of a Generation 1.5ish.

The one thing I absolutely hated about it, was if you don't use a VFG and you hold the frame, when the bolt locks to the rear, the bolt catch button slams into your palm with no mercy.

****ing Christ on the cross!! All I did was ask a damn question and offer a contrary opinion. Relax! I mad NO attempt to start an arguement. Get the **** over yourself.

I have spoken to employees of FN who were involved in the development of the platform and SOCOM T&E, as well as the lead guy from a major federal LE agency that was involved in the T&E of not only the SCAR platform, but the HK416 as well. His agency ultimately determined the 416 to be the better platform from both a cost effectiveness as well as the durability standpoint. I like my scar, but that being said there may be better choices out there. Parts are a bitch to get, as well as not being interchangeable like with an AR platform, so that is also an issue. And yes, based on my limited knowledge of the SOCOM and FBI test protocols, your are correct.... I doubt anyone on here will ever get close to that level of use/abuse.

You know, not everyone on here is trying to start arguments. Some of us are capable of logical conversation and substantive arguments. Some of us just need to get the **** off our high horse in order to participate in such discussions.

I had one on here a month ago that went for $3k. Ran well, had maybe 200 rounds through it. Cool looking weapon. That being said I would go with something like a Daniel Defense before I would buy another one. The SCAR is a heavy weapon.

    .....Sig makes some nice rifles

I had a steyr AUG for several years and absolutely loved it. A friend made me a deal I couldn't refuse...at the time. I hate him for that, lol.
Anyway, something different and maybe in your price range.

Oh yeah, btw, Hillary lost the election.

TA2d had a good point. If they are unavailable due to low mfg numbers, that might be why. If it's import related, I'd expect (hope really) that availability will increase after January. 6k is doggone insane. SCAR's are nice, but not 6K nice.

Maybe if it was full auto, but still, that's a lot of money. You could build a pimped out AR for much less than half that.

My comments were not directed "at" you nor anyone else. It just seems like here and on other forums the first time someone post on the opposite side of a topic a dog pile ensues. I was attempting to cut that off at the perveriabale pass.

If your screen name is any indication of your profession you have added to the stigma with your response. Condemning an action while at the very same time performing it. Public servants / officials are and IMO should be held to higher standards. If you are a professional public servant, act like one and take the high road. A quote I recently heard we all could try to adhere to. "Be the fountain, not the drain."

Inflection and hence intent is difficult to covey in print. I'm sure we are both heading in the same direction. Have a nice day and be safe out there.
