Yes, most of us here do. Good matches and great people. Course design is such that I consider them a thinking person's match. The courses can be shot several ways, your job is to figure out the "best" way to minimize wasted time and what workd best for you and the gear you shoot.
I urge to attend one and check it out.

So they are mostly " shoot'em as you see'em" and not so structured where they tell you "stand here and only shoot these, then go there and shoot those"

It's a good place to shoot your first match. You'll get a good safety introduction and help at every stage.

Safety is top priority, then get your hits and worry about speed in subsequent matches after you master the first two priorities.

I try to design the stages with one purpose in mind. Options.

There may be one or two that tell you what to do the you're on your own to figure out the rest.

You can check out upcoming and past stages at www.eapsclub.org

I would be counted as a 'new shooter' .... never shot there and not ranked with IPSC..... is that ok with this crowd??

Yes, we welcome and encourage new shooters. The only requirement we have to shoot is that you attend a 10 or so minute safety briefing immediately before the match.

USPSA in general places a very high emphasis on the principle of "freestyle" stages and generally freestyle is the hallmark of good stage design. Good stage designers take advantage of it. EAPS has a tradition of good stage design which follows this principle.

Classifiers, in their role of trying to create circumstances which test skills consistently nationwide are usually more restrictive.

I know, I know,.... I could use search but as in most forums, it is good to ask old questions and bring in a new conversation. At least that has been my take on it.

Where is the closest IPSC type match near Lafayette? how much are the fees? and when are matches?

    Thanks.

We Have a match that is 10 mins out of Slidell. Email me if you want to know more.

I may try to talk the wife into joining me next sunday.... are these matches 'spectator' (family) friendly??
And what should I plan on bringing?

    Very spectator friendly.

If you are shooting: Eye & Ear Pro, Gun, Mags, Holster, Mag pouches, Ammo is the bare minimum.

For spectating just eye & ear pro (eye pro is mandatory).

I just might put effort into making this weekends match.

What are the local 'rules' about carrying while competing? have been to some where you can not put weapon in holster until your at the table at your first shooting station....(talk about a gaggle of confusion there), some you can only carry weapon with slide locked to the rear..... I understand and accept keeping it UNLOADED (duh, safety).

Also how many rounds for normal match? Dang I should look up what class I will be shooting in... I THINK Lem10.... or just Limited....
