I carry an LCP in a IWB holster, with one in the chamber.
    No worries.
But I also have a Glock G19 by the bedside.
I am afraid to have one in the pipe.
What if I were to fumble in the night?
Needless to say, I am a newbie.
How do you guys handle the bedside weapons?

I usually have 2 weapons in my bedroom, my carry gun inside its holster ON the night stand while I sleep, in the closet NOT far from my bed there is a 12G with a weapon mounted light, ALL loaded and ready to roll (no worries here) I also keep inside the closet next to the 12G a bag which has extra mags/ammo, another flashlight, this way I can be ready to roll even in my pjs hehe :)

Put the gun in the safe until you are sure about your ability to handle it..

They make a bedside holster. I know RMHolster.com makes one for about $50. Id look into one of these. If someone were to break into your house, by the time your body realized/adjusted, you might not have the time or fine motor skills to rack the slide. As long as it its in a holster then its "safe". Just dont play with it...

G23c in the nightstand loaded with one in the chamber ready to roll, 12g with 00buck in the chamber loaded ready to go, wife side's the same, except hers is a Beretta cheetah instead of the glock, but she'd most likely pull her shotgun. I agree with the above, practice with your weapons until you become familiar with them and can operate them effectively, otherwise they may be more harm to you then good. When seconds count, you might not have time to rack that slide.

btw, I do like the look of that thing they make to put your holster on the side of your bed and may end up getting a couple of those.

Where are you located? There are many on BS willing to help you. As others said load the gun and place it in a holster.

Newbie fears are real and you should think about things. If you carry, you are (or should be) obviously comfortable with a chambered pistol on your person. Worrying about youself should not be a concern. If you have kiddos in the house, you need to take precautions and educate your kids. If you are only worried about youself then you need 2 things. Training with your pistol so that you are confident about having it with you 24/7 and/or maybe you can do what I do for my truck/nightstand gun is an uncle Mike's neoprene holster of appropriate size and then remove the clip. It just covers the trigger like you would do a revolver. Problem solved.

12ga in the closet with a mounted light. Two more steps away from the bed than the maximum required for me to fully wake up. :)

The blackhawk would be a good idea, and you can get QD mounting platforms to go in you truck, on your bedframe...etc. Just be sure to unload your pistol and practice drawing from all positions that you mount the holster.
