I'm from Shreveport, but I have not lived here most of my life, and yeah, there are good parts of LA, but Shreveport has ruined this state for me. I can appreciate that you guys enjoy the state in your area, but I just can't share your enthusiasm because of my own personal experiences.

I had a patient who moved here from Illinois and said there was a night and day difference between Louisiana and Illinois. She said people here are friendly and happy. And there are jobs and opportunities unlike Illinois. (her words)

Never been there, but I have not yet been to another state where people weren't nicer.

Check your BS options...maybe Spanky will let you opt out early...or just click twice on " move "

One thing I have noticed about Louisiana is that every time a yankee moves north the south looks a little better
Well if Spanky can opt me out of my contract early, I'll have to PM him, lol. Yes, most of the young, educated people DO leave this area, and yes, I am sure you would like it better without anyone telling you "this place sucks". Win/Win the way I see it.

Well....I see no reason to leave my home state based soley on scary crime statistics (A wussified move, IMHO).

    Read the fine print.

Of course not, and I bet you are a very family-oriented person and will stay here regardless. I am not, so I have options. Why not exercise them and improve my life? It's not just crime, its every single thing I can think of. I can't think of a reason to stay now that all my friends got out, one by one. Something I want to change, and I have the ability to change it, so I will.

******* brother. Every now and then, I get caught up and find myself a little impressed with your posts, but then you start ******** like this. You live in probably THE worst part, of the northwestern corner, of our state, and based on your ****ed-up experiences driving your tinted-to-hell car up there and being a self-admitted recluse only going to work, gym, and home, you badmouth the everloving **** out of the entire damn state? I think you post something at least weekly about how you can't ****ing wait to get out of this state, yet you frequent a forum specifically for shooters IN this state? I can't figure you out.

Before you troll us to death, why don't you spend some time actually traveling around Louisiana? At least get out of the hellhole that you live in. Explore the culture, meet the people, enjoy the food, etc etc. Sorry, but I'm just fed-****ing-up to all hell with the ******** you spew on a regular basis. You spend your entire life in your car to-and-from work and the gym, and you work in the damn hospital in one of the most violent cities in the entire state. Of COURSE you see the worst of the worst!

    Good God, man!

Yes, there are parts of this state that are nice. I said that. I also explained that I wouldn't enjoy them because of my experiences here. Kind-of like a guy who buys a Ford and has it break down every day won't buy another Ford, even if they fix the problems supposedly.

As to me being negative, what do you expect? half the threads here are about **** going wrong in this state. When's the last time one of you posted something about "New Company moves to LA" or "LA school ranks improving"? No, all I see is "Armed robbery near my job" and "15 year old 8th grade gang-banger killed" and crap like that, so don't jump on me for being negative, I'm just responding to what I keep seeing over and over from you guys.

Thanks! I know no place is perfect, but I know that I would be much happier elsewhere. Sorry for the negativity, but it's either bitch about it online, or bitch about it in person, and the only people I see are patients, and that's inappropriate. All smiles around the work-place!

I've been on the west coast, up and down the east coast, upstate new York, illinois, wisconsin, Maryland, new hampshire, Indiana, hell I've even went to Montreal and partied on St. Catherine st. But there is no place like home. Florida to Texas is a lot more tolerable if I ever decided to leave this state, but still you know much of a pain on the ass it is to have to go buy liqueur from another store when there shouldn't be a problem with getting it from the Winn-Dixie when I'm there getting my groceries. Besides, everyone knows the best looking girls are raised in the South.

Maybe you need to come to South La. for a change or get out of the city....I was born in N.O. and raised there and left in 1994 for lack of opportunities and moved to Baton Rouge....a better move for me as I didn't want to have to send my future kids to private/Catholic school in NO. Had my kids while living in BR and when it was time for them to start school it was like being in NO again..better education meant private schooling again...SO, we did one of the best things we've ever done and move to Ascension parish..great public schools and plenty of friendly people who aren't caught up in the "keeping up with the Jones'" mentality that I saw in BR. Crime? hardly any....Its all in what your priorities are in life I guess but I'm happy here and will NEVER go back to a big city unless I gotta go to a hospital or clinic and work of course..Hell, I don't even like shopping the cities any more....

You sound retired? Unfortunately, I have a few more years until I get there, lol, so I need to be near at least a reasonably large population center as I work in a hospital.

How far South do I need to go? I have been to Alexandria, and it seemed nice enough, but all I did was eat at 1 restaurant and have the windows of my car tinted. I did note that the tinters took EXCEPTIONAL pride in tinting my car. Whether it was because it was a nice car, or that is their normal work-ethic, I cannot say, but I was sufficiently impressed that my next car will be tinted by them as well. Beyond that, nothing really to say about the area other than that there sure were a lot of cops. My V1 was lit up constantly. No playing in that place!

I do have one friend that always felt I judged Shreveport too harshly, until he moved to NO, and then told me that he hated Shreveport and I was right and he just hadn't "gotten it" because he hadn't lived anywhere else, so that is at least one other person who I know very well that agrees with you all.

I like swamp, it's nice, but I do kindof want 4 seasons and some topography variance, so yes, I am leaving the state, even if I did head down south and find the people to be an entirely different breed.

Anyway, I am going to visit TDH wherever he is (Walker? BR?) and shoot the suppressor he is holding for me until my Form 4 clears. Maybe I will rent a motel/hotel/whatever you call it there and do a little sight-seeing while I am there. Change my attitude about the state in general perhaps. I'm open to accepting that people in other cities are different, but Shreveport/Bossier is beyond any redemption for me.

I think people tend to post about crime etc...mostly because of the mindset of the people in the forum. Being mostly gun-owners, defense is a high priority to us and those topics seem to appeal to us.

On the bright side, Nucor is building a new iron plant in St. James Parish! Governer Jindal got re-elected! Every school system sorrounding EBR now has B or better rankings!

I have not looked into Jindal any at all as I am moving in less than a year. This is a good thing I presume?

Alexandria, sucks too. There is nothing out there, no offense to those that live there or raised there but it's pretty boring. Ascension parish is very nice I lived in St. Amant for 4 years, great schools, it's more like a suburb of Baton Rouge, about a thirty minute ride. Still has all of the conviences of a city. Go pay taxes somewhere else in another state and you'll realize it's not so bad here.

Maybe not bad where you are, but Shreveport? Noone who ever left that I was friends with regretted it, and their lives took a dramatic turn for the positive as well upon leaving.

He does about as good as you can expect a politician to. Which is saying a lot compared to his predecessor and a certain US senator.

Look at Oklahoma, I think medical professional make a boatload of money there.
