Cheapest route to go.... Want to paint a black syn. Stock like a coyote tan and would like to get an extra factory barrel for cheap so I don't mess up any of the original parts...
    What do you all recommend?

Might as well just buy another gun. I would just modify factory parts, while these guns are great they are a dime a dozen.

LSP I don't see it either or any pictures of one on the net. It looked similar to the butler creek folding stock, now I'm confused.

Ok thanks. I guess I could just do this. Can you "scuff" and "degrease" the wooden stock and then paint it with the satin tan camo paint?

Yeah, a scope is so... dated... on a .22 (unless it is a benchrest gun).

I've bagged dillers all over my yard (and its a big yard) with The Diller Scout... a CZ 52 with an al cheapo paintballer red dot sitting on it and an InSight Procyon white light mounted to the fore-end. The RDS is kind of like a head-up-display... not as narrow a filed of view as a scope, plus you can keep both eyes open.

    .

I'd like to see some pics of your .22. I'm curious how you did the scout mount. TKS!

Dad bought my brother and I one of these each when we were kids. He put us a 4x32 Tasco on it with Over/under brackets so we could use our iron sights too.

I've got just at 19,000 rounds through mine and I've never ran anything but bullets down the barrel. Maybe every couple of years I drop some oil near the bolt. It rode around in the back of me and my brothers truck for more than a decade when we first got them, and that was to and from Middle & High School lol Shooting Rabbits and Cats before school down back roads.

Hadn't shot it in a couple months. Took it out the other night, point and shoot and finally killed a nasty looking stray that was hanging around the house for days even after Pest Patrol had come out. One shot in the dark, 30 yds or so lined up the cross squeezed the trigger and *crack*! Dog didn't make a sound, just folded him up. I thought to myself, MAN I still love this gun.

The entire life of the gun I've pretty much shot Remington Bulk Ammo. I used Federal Bulk (once XMas Gift) and had 2 FTE's and a Dudd. Shot the rest of the box and never shot Federal in it again. I've run plenty of Stinger's through it via Rabbit Hunting.

This is one of TWO Ultimate experience guns for me. A gun I've had since before I could drive and now have almost 20,000 rounds through it and it's still just ridiculously accurate and ultimately reliable.

The other gun being the 870 Express 20 Ga. I got before this gun and it has over 7,000 rounds through it without so much as a hiccup.

Like I said this is one of THOSE gun topics for me. Whenever I see someone first get to know a Ruger 10/22 and talk about it. I always think man, have I got a testimony for you to hear about this rifle and you think you're in love with it after 100 rounds!?

I think I may not have been as clear as I would have liked. There is nothing wrong with getting the new parts I just wouldn't get them in order to preserve the factory parts.

    Few questions... :)
What is fun to shoot with this thing? Favorite targets or drills?
Since it is a long rifle only firearm what is the quietist round for it... Have another year before I can own a suppressor :)

10/22 are so accurate they can almost be boring :draw: to keep things different, some target ideas are the clay targets for bb gun (they are like 2" disk or so), golf balls are fun and you can get some practice judging distance with them, some spinners or dueling tree can be fun and challenging, anything that blows up is always a good time :D

If you check the classifieds on RimfireCenteral.com you should be able to find an OEM barrel and stock for about $75.
I would not worry about painting your parts especially if you are considering adding a can in the future.

Any idea on quiet ammo that still functions?

A light mount would be nice also...

Maybe I have the exception in 10/22's. I'm not overly impressed with the accuracy (or maybe its just me). I had Nick's clean up the trigger and that helped some. Eventually I want to put a tac-sol barrel on it but other things keep taking priority.

Thanks guys. I don't mind having to cycle them ( should work just like the yugoslav Sks with the gas off )
It is for nuisance and night time problems.... Doesn't need to be rapid just semi quiet..... ;)

I shoot one of the 2-4-6 inch spinning plate things at 80 yards,...I got mine 3-4 years ago with the tapco furniture on it and it is my favorite gun. Easily 10 thousand rounds have been through the barrel.

Glad to hear you like it gunguy. my dad bought my 10/22 in the early 70's. It's had I don't know how many thousands of rounds through it and dropped more rabbits and squirrels than I can remember. It was the very first gun I ever shot, and the very last one I'd ever sell. I hope you have as much luck, and fun, with yours as I have with mine. My dad also put a plastic "heat sheild" and a bird cage flash suppressor on it when he got it. it was "tacti-cool" before there was such a thing. performance upgrades aren't the only kind you can do, most of the cheap "look cool" parts I have seen for the 10/22 hold up much better than the same kind of parts for other guns and to me are well worth the few bucks they cost, even if they don't make it shoot any straighter :D

What are some good collapsible stocks for the 10/22? I'm 6'3 so the stock stock length is almost too short for me, but my wife is 5'0" and she'd have a much easier time using a collapsible stock.
