I'm not paranoid or anything, but this is awfully coincidental:

Not just well armed. I see ear and eye pro, a vest under the backpack, sidearm on a duty belt. He also has an optic and is using it, so has some level of training as well.
You know, this gun argument is silly. When I was in high school, we brought guns to school all the time; heck, my school even had an indoor range. Pretty much everybody had a knife on them as well, and guess what? Nobody got shot or stabbed. Children were expected to be responsible, and...
You absolutely can yell "fire" in a movie theater, especially if there happens to be a fire in the theater. ;)
"Reasonable" exceptions are infringements. Just because enough people are willing to accept them that politicians can codify them into laws doesn't make them not infringements.
There's more than enough votes to pass it in the house, and Landry has said he will sign it. Extraordinary session ends March 6, so that's the last date for the fat lady to sing.
We do have the lifetime permit, and it works out to be a lot cheaper if you live long enough.
One of the reasons stated for the renewal period is reciprocity; some states require that you get training every 5 years.
One of the guys who spoke while it was in committee (during the comment period) said at least we'd be 28th, instead of 50th like we usually are. I don't think the senators were amused.
True, one of the amendments to SB1 was to clear up some of the wording to put it in line with the wording in the CHP legislation. They mentioned it was to distinguish between carrying a knife and a handgun, which I thought was a little odd.
Just to be clear, this exception is for CCP holders only, it does not apply to constitutional carry. You are still prohibited from carrying within 1000 feet of a school or in an establishment that sells alcohol for consumption unless you have a permit.
Probably because they don't like Miguez. He comes across like a very pro 2nd fundamentalist. Barrow tried to add an amendment to restore gun rights to felons, thinking that would **** him off. Miguez said it was a great idea and he'd love to work with her to author a new bill to introduce that. :D
If only there was statistical data from states that have passed constitutional carry that we could look at showing changes to homicide and violent crime rates. Oh wait, there is data, and guess what it shows?
