I'm not sure when it was put in place as i hired in 2010, but apparently our law department was whole heartedly with putting in a gun check point with lockers available to both employees and contractors.
I work for a very large oil and gas company, and luckily they provide lockers outside of the plant to secure firearms. However, no firearms are allowed inside the plant due to it being a federally protected/restricted facility. Hence, why they offer lockers outside the gate.
