S&W M&P45 full size 1.0 when I carry a .45, but I'm comfortable with 9x19 or .40...or .38 +p, or .357 Mag. My remaining 1911 (Colt Series 70 Combat Commander) is pretty much relegated to safe queen status. On occasion, I'll carry my S&W M22-4.
The name of the class was "Aim Fast, Hit Fast". I kinda doubt that Todd would argue that one should use those techniques at bad breath distances. :) Just another reason to take another class. :D
Y'all mind if I post an AAR here amidst all the wailing and gnashing of teeth? ;)
I've only seen one person post what he hoped to get out of the class, so I'll add what my goals were. I wanted, first of all, to get my grip unscrewed. I went from the thumbs-locked-down grip of a dedicated...
FWIW, I asked him if I could bring my Beretta so we could work on some grip issues I was having (since I changed to a thumbs-forward grip, I occasionally hold down the slide release), in addition to the M&P 45 I originally planned on using, and he had no problem with it. He probably misses...
+1 on the electronic ears.
Also, a back up gun would be good, if you have one. It'd be a drag if your primary broke (it happens) and you didn't have another one with which to complete the course. It's one of those "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" things...
Folks - Has anyone worked up a load for these? I've got data from Darrell for WSF and TG, but that's about it. Looking to use them in an M&P, Beretta, SIG P6, and a couple of CZ-75Bs, need to make at least a 130 PF.
Thanks!
I'd be interested if he got back the same serial numbered gun. Since it's been well used, if they replaced it with a new, blued version, I wouldn't fuss!
In the price range you're looking for, I'd recommend a Glock 26 or an M&P9 Compact. Both are reliable and accurate. I prefer the S&W, mainly because the Glock points high in my 1911-trained hands.
Being an old-school kinda guy, my .38 Special defensive ammo is new-production Federal 158 grain +P LSWC-HP. I have one two inch gun - a M10 - and I haven't carried it for ages. The old "FBI" load works fine in 4" barrels; I have no need to shoot through cars, since I'm not a LEO.
I've got a 96/11, and have to load 180 grain Remingtons to something like 3.03" OAL or shorter (it's been a while since I've worked with it). The first time I tried something longer, the bullet stayed in the throat when I extracted the case, and I spewed IMR-4064 all into the action.
Both Berettas and SIGs are aluminum framed as well, and there's not much complaining about wear with them. In the 70s and 80s there were some aluminum framed pistols that didn't wear well, but current ones (like that sweet 908 of yours) wear well due to advances in metallurgy.
I'm an IDPA Safety Officer, moving into the NOLA area. I was the match director for the club outside of Lake Charles until I deployed to Afghanistan, and folks lost interest. I might be able to help, but I'm as busy as a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest right now - still don't have a...
