I looked around and didn’t see any recent threads on this topic, so here goes. How many of us here are campers / rv’ers??? Drop a pic of your setup and some of your favorite campgrounds.

Family and I bought a 28’ travel trailer during the beginning of covid 1.5 years ago so that we could do more family oriented activities when the world seemed to be shut down and going crazy. We bought a 2020 Keystone Passport 2820 bunkhouse.

We just completed our 17th camping trip, have been to Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee so far and enjoyed every single trip.

Lost ours in Ida. Six hours of 100MPH wind blew water in through all the seals. Water was dripping from the ceiling and light fixtures. Totaled it. It was fun while it lasted.

Had a 30’ Grand Design 5er that got roof damage in Ida and was totaled. Replacement was a 33’ GD.
Maiden voyage was to Lake Bruin last week of 2021

Finally, a topic I can chat about! We bought our original 23BHS Salem Cruise Lite a few years and kids ago. Loved it! It was super light and easy to tow with a half ton. But, we outgrew it and early last year bought our Salem 29VBUD from Liberty, TX. That was a crap drive with a new camper that wasn't setup properly and totally empty! We had to drive all the way out to Texas to get the color scheme we wanted because everything around here that had a 29VBUD was the Wildwood trim and I wasn't into the White/Brown color scheme. Multiple family members told me not to settle, and I'm glad we didn't.

Anyway, our favorite campgrounds are Lake Lincoln in Wesson, MS. Followed by Flint Creek in Wiggins, MS (but the drive through NOLA East is usually the hatred of visiting there). We have multiple trips planned here in the next few months (generally we stop in the summer) to Percy Quinn (Feb), Fountain Bleu, Lake End (March), Little Black Creek.

We just went three weeks ago to Tickfaw and it's unfortunately a complete mess. But, it does appear they are making improvements while the campground is destroyed. They are added septic hook ups to the first 10 sites I think, with more to come.

In addition, and without starting a new thread - we bought e-bikes this past year as well. In the same idea you had with Covid, to get out and do more as a family. Our favorite thing to do while camping now also! We're hoping to ride the trace when we got to FountainBleu soon.

Here's ours. 2019 Rockwood Ultra Lite 2706WS. Obligations don't allow us to make very many quick weekend trips with it right now. But it is home for our three or four vacation trips each year. Have been to Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Florida. Haven't really found a "favorite" campground, but we stay try to at either COE, State or NPS campgrounds. They tend to be quieter and have more space than the privately owned campgrounds. And the senior pass discount always helps too.

My wife wanted a TT to go to dog shows and field trials, so we got a used 2018 19' Forest River Flagstaff Microlite. The dinette now holds 12 dog crates, and she has solo traveled to KY, IL, MO, OK, TX, and AL each several times over the last 18 months. Added a soft-start to the 13k BTU AC so we could run the trailer with a Honda 2200W generator, set up with 6-gal extended-run fuel tank.

Advice I learned the hard way -
1 - replace the OEM China-bomb tires with decent trailer tires rated well above your speed and weight.
2 - re-seal the roof seams each year.
3 - We had a Honda 3500 W gen (75 pounds) on a receiver hitch cargo carrier (50 pounds) mounted on the trailer bumper, and the bumper broke off on I-10 near Breaux Bridge. If you want to mount anything heavier than the spare tire on the trailer bumper, either weld a receiver hitch to the frame, or replace the bumper with something like Mount-n-Lock Heavy Haul'r replacement (rated at 500lbs and 600lbs.

I built my own camper based on a M101A2 military trailer. Insulated roof, propane heat, memory foam bunk, AC, screen door and sides, and side-mounted kitchen area. Took it on a 4000 mile trip to WY and CO in 2020, and it did great.

I tow it hitched to a Versa-Haul motorcycle carrier that is also a receiver hitch for a small trailer. That way I use my Yamaha XT250 dual sport to do day trips, even dodging buffalo in Yellowstone

Wife wanted a TT so I got a new truck and she got a trailer. Only one shakedown so far, but another one coming up before we venture to see our kids in faraway states. 20211119_140528.jpg

Man what a dream! I know if I wasn't married with kids I'd probably have to try this for a few months. Good for you! What are some future upgrades you have planned and do you do it full time?
    No, Not full time.

I'm in the process of upgrading my power situation, right now.

I'm going to mount a second 100w panel on top of the shell, and install a jack to plug in an additional panel while parked.

    From a 100ah AGM battery, to a 200ah LiFePO4 battery.

What I have has served me well, with just my CPAP and charging devices. It works after I added the refrigerator, so long as I don't use the humidifier on my CPAP at night. I'm also having issues with several cloudy days in a row.

This is all a bit overkill for my needs, but it will leave me room to grow.
Total cost on the upgrade will be less than ~$1K.

I plan on installing a diesel heater in the first, largest locker. I do all of my camping in winter and spring.

My truck is 2wd. When these tires wear out, I'll replace them with something a bit more aggressive.
I'm also thinking about adding a winch, and adding a limited slip differential.

It's a great way to travel alone. I find remote spots in National Forests to camp, and on BLM land out west.

It's just as handy in a Wal Mart parking lot or a rest area when traveling.

If I had it to do over again, I'd start with an E-250 4wd van.

Here's a link to the build out.

That sounds like a really good reason to travel far and wide . Lol.

We bought a popup camper in 2018 and have gone on a camping trip pretty much once every month since we bought it. I drive a 4 door Jeep so it can only tow 3,500 lbs. The popup weights around 2,000 lbs. We have been on several out of state trips to Galveston, TX, Ouray, CO, Hot Springs, AR, and Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma.
