i have a few friends who are welders and fitters and they tell me no guns are allowed in your own car in the chemical plant parking lots. they have dogs to detect gunpowder and if you refuse to let them search your vehicle you will be banned from that plant forever.

i ask cause i was thinking about going work for contractors in the plants. i dont work anywhere near there right now.

in louisiana your car is considered an extension of your home. is there anything being dont to stop this?

i feel the need for a gun in my vehicle while driving the louisiana highways more so than in my home to be honest.

I have asked this question recently and am still unsure of the legality of it. I know the law goes into effect on August 15. I also know that most contractors are forbidden from having firearms in their vehicles. If you work for the plant then that is a different issue.

I think the interpretation we all agreed on in the other thread was if there is a sign or guard gate then they MUST provide an alternative secure parking lot for gun owners or a lock box in the guard shack. If they don't provide another parking lot then the sign doesn't mean anything.

That pretty much sums it up.

I'm not sure where you get the " alternate SECURE parking lot " from . The law does not say anything about a secure lot . Just an alternate one .

I went to Conoco Philips Saturday morning and at the check in building they asked if I had any firearms in my vehicle.

I received a call two days ago (July 24) from the Director of Safety for one of the major oil companies (can't say which one) to discuss their plans regarding the new law (SB51 = Act 684). He called me because he knows I teach CCW classes, and he had questions about other Louisiana statutes regarding firearms.

His particular firm has not finalized their plans, but I can say that it sounded encouraging. And no, there was no mention of homeland security regulations.
