I can almost understand the buyer wanting a BOS but we are talking about the seller asking for documentation.
For the same reasons. If I sell you a firearm, you commit a crime using said firearm, then somehow leave it behind and the police show up at my door.

Would that save me from being charged with your crime? Maybe, maybe not, but at least it’s a starting point.

I am not using an FFL, but I would require to see your license and sign a self generated BOS.

Otherwise I’m not selling. Or buying without a way to document it.

A friend of mine, retired cop, was about to sell something to an underage buyer.

I do, why is it any of my Business who they are, or why they want it…

When you sell a car do you ask them and make sure that they’re not gonna exceed the speed limit or make sure they wear a seatbelt…. Naaa none of my business LOL
But you do have to sign off the titles, turn in license plate etc. a chain of ownership and custody if you will.

A private buyer or seller shouldn’t have to use an FFL, but a simple BOS isn’t too much to ask.

All than nonsense with a car is for you to be able to drive it on public roads. If you want to drive it only on your private property, those rules do not apply. The car becomes, essentially, a piece of metal being bought and sold, kinda like a refrigerator. A private refrigerator sale is a pretty straight forward transaction between the buyer and the seller. If both parties agree, a bos can be provided.

For items where their misuse could result in jail time, I believe a bos makes more sense.

I ask for ID. If they have a Louisiana ID and it’s not someone I know I use good judgment. I’ve signed a couple of bills of sales for people in the past and even required one the first time I decided to sell a gun. Now I don’t require a bill of sale and I wouldn’t pursue a sale that the seller requires one. I can understand someone wanting one and I respect their decision, it’s just not something I’m willing to do anymore.
