Here's a 1st post for the new Gunsmithing section :)

Ok, who out there can swage a pinned in front sight on this "retro" Springer 45acp
Or maybe use a low temp solder
(High temp solder will discolor the high polish blue)

    Thanks Spanky !

Jayd, JB weld is your freind. I've tried staking the front sights and even used the "Correct" staking tool. Fork that.
Any heat to that will change the bluing. The slide is so thin in that section that the heat is hard to control

The thought had crossed my mind but was unsure it would work

The only thing that kept me from trying is if the sight breaks off the pin that is bent and jb welded, what do you do then? :eek3: :)

First off, what are you doing that you'd break the sight off ?

If it does break you'd just drill it out, clean up the the hole and do it again.

It will only take a little JB weld. Let it sit for 8hrs or so and then go back and use a razor blade to clean up around the base of the site. Put some tape on the inside of the slide

    Thanks for the tips
    What will the tape do?

Oh and the sight rubs pretty hard in my holster (that doesn't have a sight channel)
Figgered it might cause me problems in the future
