So, I realize that I’m still considered fairly young since I am not yet 40, but I’ve noticed some things in the past few years about getting older that really suck. For example, just last week I somehow injured myself stepping out of the shower! WHAT?! Are these the types of things I have to look forward to? What are some other things that suck about getting older that y’all have experienced?

Getting old is all in your head. I'm in my early 50s and I don't have an ache or pain anywhere. Eat well and keep your weight down, don't smoke and do regular moderate exercise. Having an optimistic outlook on life helps a lot, too. Eeyore's get old a lot faster than us Tigger's do!

Eyesight has been the worst for me. Little over 11 years ago at 42, when I first started shooting USPSA, I could read/score the targets from way back. Now, I have to get up pretty close. Can't read the laptop screen or magazines at home without reader glasses. At least I still pass the drivers eye exam, but probably not by much.

Stamina is worse too. I used to cut my lawn, with a push mower (it was good exercise, something I admittedly do not try to hard to do), in about an hour start to finish. That stretched to 80-90 minutes over time. This year, I had to buy a self propelled. It was just too much effort to push. But I'm back to about an hour now.

On that note, anyone looking for a good condition Honda push mower, I know someone who has one for sale...

Unless you have a career ending accident on the job caused by someone else and refused to sue the person responsible.

I wish I could say it's not too bad, but most all of my aches and pains was self induced. I'm 58 and just had major back surgery which will keep me from being too active for the better part of a year. I'm a automotive tech and this and shear stupidity of doing dumb **** is to blame for this. My eye sight started getting hard to focus on anything within arms reach @ 40 so I wear reading glasses to see anything up close, farther out I'm good. Stamina that was already pretty bad now is now worse, getting out of the shower and drying off gets me breathing heavier. Problem is my brain says "Hey your still young, you can do this do ****" my body now says " Oh Hell no you ain't" ! Like krotsman says, take care of yourself while you are young and you won't (hopefully) be in bad shape later in life.

Every new day is a gift. Some are awesome and some I would like to return. I spend lots of time at MD Anderson. Be thankful for getting old. But yes getting old does suck! Lol
Yes sir, you are so right. I am thankful every morning I wake up. Yes some days are good, others suck. Always be thankful for what we have.

It seems to come in stages unless something happens to you to speed it up like JBP. Eyes, hearing, stuff just starts to hurt for no reason. And then you find that you can't mentally juggle as many things at the same time as you used to. Krotsman's right too though, you have to keep moving, exercising, and start taking care of your body. I was just talking to my wife yesterday about how I never used to fall. I would just jump like a cat and land on my feet. No more of that, I just have to look for the best landing possible, lol. My mother was right too. She said all the S%#% I was doing to my body would give me arthritis and here I am. Whatever you do, don't get a recliner.

Especially in todays time age is just a number. Take care of yourself, be conscious of what you put into your body, exercise, eat a healthy diet, and make sure to monitor and stay on top of your health.

I’m 32 years old and was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 2 month ago. About 5 months ago I woke up one day with an upset stomach and blood in my stool. I didn’t even think twice about it considering I did heavy squats and leg exercises the night before I figured it was just hemorrhoids acting up. If you’re a weight lifter you know exactly what I’m talking about unfortunately lol. Unfortunately the blood didn’t go away and the bowel movements became more and more frequent to the point I was in the restroom 15-20 times a day. After several doctors visits and lots of pain and suffering all I could do was wait 9 weeks for a colonoscopy. I went from an athletic 6ft 1, 240lbs and 11% body fat to 200lbs and 13% body fat during that time.

I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and although I’m starting to feel better now with the new medication I’m on I still don’t feel 100% like my old self. I just keep a positive mindset or try to anyway and I remind myself theirs plenty of people who have it a lot worse than I do. I’m back up to 210lbs and started back exercising last week. With no family history of this and a clean bill of health up to this point it was definitely an eye opener to me that times of bad health can fall on anyone at anytime.

Yea that’s how it goes. If you’re not already start working out. Weight training. It helps slow down the rust from setting in your joints. I’m 44 and while I’m stronger than most half my age things just hurt.

I was going to post about my pain from Shingles but wasn't sure till all of you started whining. Tongue in Cheek.
I’m not a giant vax guy by any means But if you had chickenpox get that vaccine! I had a Bad case On my back and leg & it hurt to wear pants for a month & a half, out of work. It still hurts & that’s almost 4 months ago now. All the stuff they say on the vax commercials is true. I heard the shots aren’t fun but it’s much better than all the crap I had to deal with.
And the older you get the more likely you are to get a bad case.
Getting older is not for wimps but your attitude about your adversity is everything. And your support network will help you to keep going. And prays definitely work!

I dunno what's worse... the joints going, the eyesight going, calories being three times as hard to burn off, or hangovers lasting three days. Fortunately there are little fixes like advil, zofran, cialis and cocaine to keep us feeling like our spry old selves!

My wife recently came down with shingles, I immediately went and got the shot. My mom had it years ago. Seeing what they went/going thru I want no part of.
This back surgery has got me feeling like **** on a boar hog. I feel ok but still can't do anything productive yet. Getting old is no fun.
