I need to hire a good programmer to help me support the US Army Corps of Engineers hurricane protection projects. I'm an independent contractor sub-contracting to a firm that's doing the project management support to the New Orleans District office. I'm the IT manager here, and I'm frankly swamped. I need a programmer who understands SQL Server, MS Access, and Visual Basic.
This position is going to pay $70,000 to $120,000 depending upon your technical ability and negotiating skills, so I need someone who understands Transact SQL and can design MS Access reports and screens based upon them.
This stuff is not rocket science, but since we're contractors to the DOD, we have to present a VERY professional face, and quickly give the clients what they need but don't know it yet. The position is for one year, but my original one-year position started back in 2002, and I'm still there. Do good work, and the client will keep you around.
One other thing: Since the client is the Department of Defense, you're going to get a security background check so, if you're a felon you probably should not apply.
