I acquired this 1911 and need help. It says it’s a colt but the serial numbers register as a different colt model.
On the right side it has colt smf or smp there it’s also some other letters I can’t make out a little farther.
Can anyone offer input on if this is a legit colt firearm

Just from what I can see in the pictures you provided, I see the "Rampant" Colt emblem, and what appears to be "COLT" stamped into the slide. That at least leads me to believe the slide is Colt. Everything appears well worn, and obviously nickel/chrome plated. The partial Serial number I see on the frame appears to have been scratched or lasered into the frame as opposed to stamped the way Colt would have done it, so it could be any random serial number from who knows where. Not sure about much else.

A lot of companies made 1911 frames over the years. I am confident your slide is a Colt. It's worn probably from buffing and refinishing but it is a Colt. The frame is anybody's guess but I would think Colt is not in the mix. As noted above, Colt serial #'s are stamped. So it is probably a parts gun. From the limited pics, that is my take.
