I bought this MP5 22 rifle used with lots of scratches and wear marks on it, but it was cheap and a good quality gun so I jumped on it. From day 1 I've been wanting to refinish it. A friend suggested Duracoat and after some research I decided that's what I'm going to do.

I went on the Duracoat website and found a kit of HK Black so I got that since it's the original color. Per the instructions I cleaned, scuffed and degreased it after a full disassembly. The first coats only left me with a few blemishes so once it dried overnight I resanded and repainted those areas. You have very specific instructions for painting with the Duracoat but it's worth it.

I started the process on the 4th and finished today. I reassembled the rifle carefully because the Duracoat isn't fully cured for 4 weeks, yep 4 weeks. You can handle it, but its not fully scratch resistant till then. The finish is beautiful and color matches the plastic parts of it I didn't paint so I'm thrilled with it. For less than $70 and a few hours I can't be happier with the way this came out.

I coated a synthetic rifle stock in Duracoat aerosol, coyote tan.
Excellent lower-cost option compared to cerakote if utmost durability and ultra-thin coat are not paramount.
For less than $100 you really can't beat it.

You definitely did a fine job here.
I used the "can inside of a can" so I put the entire can on that one stock since the catalyst/hardener reduces the shelf life.

Looking forward to admiring more of your good work, Bam Bam!

The wife would like a AR in 22lr wearing Camo so I might just buy her a rifle and tackle that using the Duracoat, but thats a project for another day. Life got me too busy right now. Thanks for all the nice words about this. I love the way it looks now as I hate scratches and rough looking stuff.

I used the aerosol can too which made this process very simple.

    I understand 100%!
Waiting on a scope base, rings and turret caps to be Cerakoted by the 'smith, myself.
I haven't yet figured out if I'm waiting patiently or impatiently. LOL

Had a good range trip to RangeUSA the other day. Now that the Duracoat is dry and fully cured I loaded up and headed out to pop a few caps. The Duracoat is a great coating that covers very well and easy to work with. I love the factory color and finish with it. The plastic matches perfect and all. Mounted up the optic and did a little hole punching. Very happy with the results.

I have an old 870 mag i think i might try this on. Cerakote job would cost mire than the gun is worth
I bought the aerosol can setup since I don't airbrush or have the equipment to do so. About $70 and was plenty to do this whole job with several light coats. I would love to see you do this to that 870 and see how good it will look.
