I’ve rented class III firearms before and they were never out of the sight of at least one employee. Generally a person escorts you and remains in the vicinity “to assist”. I can’t imagine what the guy in this story was thinking. I CAN imagine him looking for a new job and the owner/manager losing all control of their sphincters. I’m sure this will haunt them for a long time. It sucks but they deserve whatever happens.
The perp was most likely paid to do the crime and tracks were covered. If the truck was stolen or the plates changed, she may have left a cold trail.

So many mistakes, but the woman knew how to "work the system", paying cash and using fake ID. She doesn't even attempt to conceal it, just walks away from the range with it in her hand! Incredible!

"After researching the name given to the range employee, it was determined Herring used her dead sister's identity to rent the gun, authorities say."

Did she not think they would investigate the name on the id she used? This is an example of when the feds should step in. She should get federal charges and the government should go for the max time allowed unless she cooperates and the weapon is recovered.

We had a woman trying to use a deceased relative's name information on paperwork at a hospital once, hoping to avoid a bill, but she was wearing a memorial shirt for the relative whose name she was trying to use. They're usually not too bright.

Well if that ain’t the textbook picture of entitlement…
I reckon she’ll give up the mastermind when they tell her what she’s looking forward to, but it’s gonna be a long search for that gun. It’ll likely be recovered in an unrelated incident or investigation.
