The bigger issue isn't the background check for private sales, although that is an issue. The bigger issue is the mechanisms in place to ensure the law is followed. How can you make sure the law is being followed unless there is a database of gun owners and the guns they own?
That's ok. We can all just go to Mexico, denounce our citizenship, and cross back here illegally and all is well. Free stuff, and best of all, no background to check.

True, there's also nothing to stop anyone from doing a BOS for a date before the law took effect. Catching someone in violation would rely on the firearm being traced as a crime gun or stolen firearm. Most firearms are nev or even fired or used in any crimes and only half of the departments in the country even utilize ATF to travel firearms.
In other words, feel good legislation that only makes it more difficult for lawful gun owners!

Re: before the date the law took place

The answer is simple from their perspective. No grandfathered weapons. Register them all with the database.

Did hell freeze over or something? Did you finally come around? Now you think that maybe they plan on a firearms registration? I remember when I used to talk about such things…
I bet you think this is a new thing too. LMAO!

My stance has not changed. I've always believed they want a gun owner database. I just don't believe they have one now outside of the NFA registry.
