    So I've had this AK47 (from the late 90s) for about 2 months, and I'm in the process of re-finishing it. The muzzle threads were ground off to the point that the barrel wall is too thin to re-thread.

    I'm thinking while I have the gun apart and blasted what was left of the old finish off, I might remove the existing fsb and then replace it with the AK74 one that has the 24x1.5mm threaded extension.
    Like this one;
    AK74 FSB

    That way I could attach a brake.

    NOTE: I'm a total newbie on this platform and looking for any advice, suggestions etc. from those who know, and if this is something I should farm out if I decide to press on.

    I bring my AKs to Mesa kinetic research in gonzalez for stuff like that. They cut down and threaded two guns for me a while back for use with a suppressor

    I'll get photos tonight when I get home, and try to find a caliper to get the barrel OD behind the fsb.

    So the barrel behind the sight mic'ed at .575, in front was .475.
    Got a heavy coat of oil on it to keep the flash rust at bay. (Pay no attention to the paper towel stuffed in the barrel!)

    The current sight is pinned on top, the AK74 would need to be drilled, dimples are on the bottom. Not sure if that makes a difference.
